Odd malfunction

Occasionally the 'License Plate Light L,R' malfunction shows up on my heads-up when I start my car, yet when I walk around back to check, the lights are working fine. Restarting the car fixes the problem sometimes, but others the malfunction comes right back.

Any ideas on what's going on? Does this just read the current that passes through the bulbs, or is there another expensive sensor that's having problems?

simple answer - bulb has blown but if you flick the bulb (or move it abput abit) the little wire inside the bulb re solders itself together again and so works! Of course though, because it has blown it will come lose again. so best bet - just change the bulb! FYI, if a house bulb goes, just flick it and it will give you another week or so

Thanks guys, glad to hear it's that simple. I've been thinking of upgrading to some blue/white LED's back there like the new Lexuses anyway, this will give me a great excuse.

I had a brake light out, and after I bought the bulb, I found out that just twisting the bulb in place re-established a broken (corroded) contact. So even if the light is actually out, try twisting it around.
