CLK 55 rear brake caliper on a C32?

ok, i know a lot of you guys are nuts over brakes, but I have to admit, the brakes on my 2003 C32 are totally fine for me. i don't drive on the track, but i drive VERY hard, and my brakes are great. i have the stock rotors, stock calipers, and ceramic pads. the pads were quite an improvement for fading (i actually didn't notice much fade with the stock pads), and the lack of dust is amazing.

I can't find a thread on this, but does anyone know where to ordedr the CLK55 rear calipers? AND will they fit directly on a 2003 C32? I think they look a hell of a lot better, and I'd like to change mine out.

let me know guys. thanks

A few members have done it in the past and you can try oempartsdirect.com to get the parts. Usually they have better deals than dealers do.

This is one of the threads showing the procedures.

I recommend that you do front and back. The SLK/CLK55 4 piston rears bite much harder than the stock 2 piston, and I strongly feel that the bias is off by just doing to rears. That is, I think the backs will lock sooner and initiate ABS earlier.

The parts research that I've done using EPS indicates that the brake balance parts are the same. Therefore the stock 4 piston front / 2 piston rear are matched, and the SLK/CLK55 6 piston front / 4 piston rear are matched.

so you are also saying Brembo GT 4-piston should not matched with the AMG or the Brembo GT 4-piston rear?

our cars can't manually adjust the braking bias. I don't see how 4 front and 4 rear will do anything to throw off the balance.

IIRC, my C55 has electronic brake force distribution, so the computer proportions brake force per wheel, working with ABS & ESP sensors, and can adjust the force fore/aft and left/right as needed. Not sure if C32's do the same or not.

That said, in either case it still seems completely possible that you could throw off the initial bite and braking force if you do something that drastically alters brake force at one end.
