What's the point? Our fuel and timing maps can be edited through a flash. Piggy backs are useful for cars where the stock mapping is difficult/impossible to change.

Piggybacks usually cause unwanted driveability issues.

flashed ecus will make no where near as much power as individually dyno tuned cars due to the fact that the tuner in a "mail order" flash has to be conservative in order to be able to accomadate many different cars with many different setups

mean while a custom tailored tune for a specific car will pick up significantly more power (and we can do crazier **** like add fuel for nitrous, or get a monsterous LET pulley and retard timing/adjust fuel up higher)... btw, the AEM FIC has a 25psi map sensor, which is a nice added feature if your running higher boost

and its usually standalones that cause driveabiliy issues... piggybacks retain stock functions so they usually are the most "stock like" tunes

im trying to reason this out and see if its even possible to get one to work on a benz... there is currently a crossfire SRT undergoing an install... and if that pull thru imma try it on the c32

I was talking about an ecu flash vs piggyback. The piggyback interrupts signals which usually have an effect on part throttle driving. Standalones . . . been there and done that too many times. I'll never have one of those in a Benz.

I agree with jgsx. I wouldn't install a piggy back on the car.

I would install a stand alone EMS if someone else would do it first.

A full EMS would allow us to raise the MAP sensors max boost to something higher than 22 PSI. It would also open new doors in terms of tuning.

However, I had my turn at being the guinea pig and I'm not willing to try it....just yet.

If the EMS has the ability to run different programs, then there shouldn't be any driveability issues.

CNC - If you decide to do it, please let me know. I would love to help out. I have been working on a wiring map for our car under the radar.

Although the EMS is CAPABLE of making the car run like stock, it just is not practical. The factory maps were tested in a ton of scenarios. When I used EMS, I tuned like crazy. There were still scenarios that I would run into where the car would not run properly and would require tweaking (like an extremely cold or hot day). I don't want a Benz to turn into a life long tuning project.

Aftermarket ECU's are ideal for situations where the stock ECU just isn't capable. For example, when adding a turbo on a car that's not turbo'd from the factory, you will have no boost maps, thus the need for an aftermarket ECU to control such.

Also keep in mind the stock ECU has maps for all sorts of conditions including cold starts, extremely hott conditions, etc. These are things an aftermarket ECU simply will not have.

On a fairly stock car, or even modified car, the stock Bosch/Siemens ECU's will do just fine.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Aaron
