Catalytic Converter Recall for C55?
I brought my car back in for service today and was told about a new recall on the C55. I had heard other AMG models (ie C32) being recalled for this but not the C55. I'll give an update when I learn more.

MBWorld Fanatic!
I took my 01 ML320 for the same recall...
They did replace both cats and the car is running much better. Feels like a new car again. Guess the insides are breaking up blocking the flow. I also heard the welds are defective on some.
Glad they were free!

I know this is an old post to be bringing up but....
So just driving down the road no big deal and all of a sudden my car sounds like I am driving a top fuel drag racer and A/C was pumping in exhaust smell. Instantly knew I had a serious exhaust issue. thought maybe I blew an exhaust manifold gasket or something. I knew it had to be close to the engine since exhaust was being sucked in by A/C. I drove straight home, was less than a mile away. jacked up the car and as soon as I pulled down the plastic undertray, I saw that the weld on the upper portion of the primary cat had come completely apart, all the way around. This is obviously a manufacturers defect, and I know MB warranties their emissions for 8/80K but I am over the 80k mark so hoping there is a campaign out there for this. does anyone know the campaign number if there is one.
Thanks,
Jeff

Just spoke with Service Advisor, it is not covered by Emissions warranty, because I am pushing 110K miles. warranty is up at 80K. even better news SA said there are none in stock in all of US it would have to be ordered from Germany. price just went up from $3500 for part to $4000 because of shipping
FML! looks like I will be going a different route. anyone have any suggestions?

I am not too familiar with catalytics but found this via a search. Maybe get some performance gains too. Worth looking into due to the slightly higher priced oem part....

pulled the right side off. took less than 2 hours. the break is smooth just along the top seam where the collector is welded to the Cat, the collector is currently completely seperated. I am taking it to a muffler shop this morning to get them to weld it up shouldn't be more than a hundred bucks.
added some pics so everyone can see the clean break.
