Sweet digs. I think i'll hang out here for a few years.

Hey everybody I'm Justin and I'm a proud owner of a 2002 tiptronic Audi S4 shell. Long time member over on the respective audi boards but it seems fate has pushed me in a different direction. I was one of a few and first automatic owners to upgrade their turbos and ever since going stage 3 the car never felt or worked quite right. Two years later(last month) the car suffered engine failure due to a seized water pump which killed my timing belt, heads, half the valves, and pistons 4 and 5. So here I am...most likely hopping into a "new" c32 once the semester is finished, all the parts are sold off and i can get back up to new jersey where i live. The car died in florida so that's where the parts are staying.
Heres some pictures of the car.

Anyway a quick question regarding the tuning scene here. I did a quick skim through the archives and i didn't find anything of real answer regarding which are the more popular tuners. The most i read about is Renntech but theres got to be more of an option than just them. Any websites i can check out? thanks

appreciate it. also what are some thoughts on the steering/handling of the car. My S4 had very heavy steering and severe understeer but i assume that will change with the RWD of the C32. however i cant help but wonder if the ride itself will be as...numb as the other mercedes i havent owned/driven. before the S i owned two M class mercedes and i frequently drive the family E320 estate. I cant remember the ML's but theE is like driving on a cloud. theres no feedback and it worries me that it will effect performance if and when i take the C to an autocross event.

C32 or any AMG for that matter is going to feel very different than a normal non-sport MB, especially the older ones. With that said, there are actually options when it comes to suspension. Tien makes coilovers and H&R make more aggresive springs. The C32 has a pretty high ride hight from the factory believe it or not. One other tuner to research is Kleemann.

... and welcome to the forum!

not sure if say you have a C32 or are getting a C32 if you do get or have a C32 the most popular tuners are Renntech, Kleemann, Brabus, Carlsson, google any of those. also search for LET motorsports, evosport, HPS,
list of sites to check out.
http://www.letmotorsports.com/

http://www.brabus.com/

http://www.brabus-usa.com/mainpage.html

http://www.kleemann.dk/site

http://www.renntechmercedes.com/

http://www.evosport.com/

http://www.carlsson.de/commstore/com...s.html?P1=news

that should keep you busy for a while. Remember this... Not sure the costs for tuning a S4 are but Mercedes tuning is not cheep at all and sometimes the cost of tuning vs the HP gains are not a real good bang for your buck. I her LET motorsports makes a set of headers that have dyno proven gains and they are the best bang for your buck when it comes to headers. (from what i hear)
Im sure there are C32 owners that can send you to some other sites that have C32 aftermarket parts.

start with the suspension mods and you'll be alright stock C32 does understeer when pushed.

drove my friend's B5 S4 auto. steering feel the C32's a lot better, but it is heavy make no mistake about that.

If he had a Stage III B5 S4, he probably had $10k in that motor (plus $$$ install charges, probably)... I'm sure he'll fit in here fine

frimmelnojerz - welcome - Agree w/ Frank, address the suspension first... and go coilovers (H&R, KW, Bilstein PSS9) if your budget allows it. As far as performance, I think you'll pleasantly find that our driveline losses aren't nearly what you Audi quattro guys suffer - a stock C32 should be putting down around 280-300 rwhp, and is RELATIVELY easy to mod up to around 350+ rwhp. Good luck in your C32 search!

how about custom tuners? specifically in the new jersey/new york area? i can travel but itd be nice if there was something a little closer to home. i feel like methanol would be a great addition to this engine and it would probably work best with a custom tune. especially since no car runs exactly the same.

water/methanol is a good idea, but hard to plumb post-blower... and some knowledgeable forum members feel that pre-blower is risky b/c the rotor tolerances are too tight... so most seem to skip this mod.

As for a boost gauge, the question is "why?" - with a S/C'd engine, the boost "is whatever it is," depending on S/C rpm and load. I can see why you'd like one on a turbo car like a B5 S4 - especially since increased boost is as simple as an ECU tune, but that isn't the case with the C32...

haha well if its not my job to plumb then i dont care... i can do the simple stuff but i dont touch anything that could potentially break parts.

but in regards to the boost gauge it could be used to see if the belt is slipping or something of that nature. not completely necessary but it could be a fun little toy to have while serving a small, negligible purpose. ive seen a few posts regarding slipping on here and C32life where noone can really tell if its the torque converter engaging or the supercharger belt engaging...that could potentially shed light on the situation. just speculating..

boost gauge can be installed. SilvaC32/jerry did it on his, but I remember him telling me that they only way they found the way to do it is to drill a little hole for the sensor on the manifold. If there's any other way to do it I would love to get a boost gauge too just to watch that needle goes up and down.

ahhh i have another question...and forgive me if i dont make this concise enough but i dont know a whole lot about this platform. what are the boost limitations regarding the supercharger? i understand reducing the diameter of the pulley allows for higher boost but where is the healthy limitation? at some point does the amount of boost max out the stock injectors? i dont know if this angle of tuning has been considered or not. just asking.

Oh man, that was a good looking Audi. I've been looking for a B5 S4, and I can't find one I like for the life of me! Either it's silver, auto, too many miles for my tastes, or the wagon!

Good luck in your C32 adventures!
