Ticking noise

yes. another ticking noise. This one lasts only for about 1 minute when the engine is COLD. It started after an AMS crank pulley and LSD install. The noise is definitely coming from the area around the crank pulley. And, it seems to be the same frequency as a single rotation of the belt.

From the looks of it, the crank pulley is balanced and the belt doesn't seem to be damaged in anyway. I don't know the construction of the belt but could it be the staples that connect the belt in a loop that makes noise with the crank pulley? If so, any reason why it goes away once it warms up?

BTW, I do feel that the crank pulley is helping me get more power to the ground. Thanks for any help or thoughts on this.

Tickin Noise ??

This may seem far fetched , But I use to isolate Belt noise / Sticking , in the grooves buy taking a dry bar of Ivory soap . While the engine is idling , and run it up against the poly vee belt grooved side . If the noise subsides . You know it is just a small time belt sticking in the new fresh cut grooves on the AMS pulley. They / the grooves will wear in and get quieter. You can try a Napa Gates belt !! but they are soft. I got a response from AMS (thanks for the great customer support). I believe their response echo's your opinion:

-----

John,

I am assuming you did not replace the serpentine belt. If you don't
replace it with a new belt it will do that b/c the old hard rubber does
not grip as well. I always recommend to my customers to replace the belt
with the pulley install. As the serpentine belt warms up the rubber grips
better and the noise goes away, you probably have a worn section in your
belt hence the repetitious squeeking with rpm. Simply replace the belt
and it will go away (the belt may not seem worn but trust me it is, Any
time you replace pulleys you should replace the belt b/c every belt wear
pattern is unique to each pulley). A new belt is only roughly $25 and
takes no time at all to install. I hope this addresses your question. I
hope this message reaches you promptly, I am currently in Dubai so the the
time difference is quite drastic. Thanks again for choosing AMS, we really
appreciate your patronage and feel free to ask anymore questions. We are
here to serve you.

Best Regards,

I've been noticing the same thing, but I could not figure out what it is since it has only lasted a few minutes when my engine was cold. Well, I guess I'll have my belt replaced too. Great post.
