C55 true dual exhaust

I am thinking about replacing my stock cat-back exhaust with a true dual pipe exhaust all the way back to the mufflers which is much better than an X-pipe.

Who has done this on a C55? How much should it cost? How much power gain can I expect on a Kleeman twin-screw?

I hope this custom exhaust can gain back the power I lost after removing the smaller pulley and larger injectors due to tuning difficulties.

Exhaust C-55

Well for your car it might not be to hard. Your in Cali. So keeping the 4 OEM cats is a must. You already have the Center position Spare tire storage in the rear Trunk. That makes it easly for a right side muffler. The major Hurdle is that there is no loop in the Anti Sway bar, for a right side exhaust Pipe. You Might want to look a a SLK 5.5 , a CLK 63
or even a C-63. I saw in the Classifieds a set of CLK B/S mufflers , but they had the tips cut off. Finally you may only see a 10 H/P increase. The Firing order of the motor & exhaust pulses should make you have more of the GT sound. Not a shape raspy bark. A X-pipe will not offer any H/P improvements. Hope this helps. ___PTEngineering

Its funny because i would think it would be kinda hard. As far as I know the channel the stock exhaust runs down in the center of the car is kinda tight. then have to find a spot to hang a second pipe could be a challenge. My car is going to the shop today I can try to take a picture on the underside when its on the lift.

Did you have to remove/modify the underside of the car in any major way? How did you fit 2 pipes down the center channel? What were the diameters? How much should I expect to pay? Any gains? How's the sound?

Lots of questions but inquiring minds want to know.

Well in terms of sound.... w o w. But you can't really describe sound. We live in Florida btw so no emissions, which in turn means we can be Cat-free. MOVE DOWN HERE!

I'd probably sell my car to somebody down there instead when I get bored with this car.

The size of the pipes i am not to sure but if i recall correctly its 2.5. Sound well like Tony said hard to describe but it does sound good. Price, is around $600 including high flow cats. The only difficult part of the project is getting the piping under the right side of the diff. other than that no biggie. The complete setup is headers, primary cat delete an x-pipe and then two high flow cats. As to power i can't really tell you that b/c when i did this custom setup i also did some other mods at the same time, but all in all the car at the end makes plenty of power and i really don't think its lost anything looking at other forum members with similar mods to be honest it might of gain a little somthing compared to others but then again 5 or 6rwhp diffference from one to another is no real proof cond, dyno etc, etc.

Aluminum or Stainless Steel

Rolly,
Is yours made of Aluminum or Stainless Steel? Aluminum is cheaper but lighter. According to Vadim both are equal in durability.

Any recommendations? I live in So. Cal so rust or salt corrosion will not be an issue here.

Got a decent quote from VRP on dual exhaust with cross-over X-pipe in the middle. $1100 for aluminum or $1450 for stainless steel.

Which should I go for?
