C55 AMG
New C55 Owner

Hello all. This is a GREAT forum.

Just got a 2006 C55 last week. Black on black with the carbon fiber interior. I didn't think any car could make me forget my modded 2002 S4 but this car is a beast. (Its a bit like being in love with a 9 and thinking there could never be anything better but then meeting an 11). Already scouring this board for mod ideas but I think I will hold off and enjoy her stock for a while. Pictures will be added shortly.

A few questions that I could not find answers to in the sticky thread (great, btw). Please forgive me as some of these are probably basic, superficial or just plain dumb:

1. RBDS: the FM radio does not identify broadcast stations or the songs they are playing. Both my 2002 S4 and 2004 Volvo XC90 have this feature (RBDS), as does nearly every recent car I've driven (incl renters). Does Command really not have this feature? It means nothing I know but it seems like an odd omission.

2. Tele-Aid: Is tele-aid worth getting? I have a lo-jack already and I assume I could use my cell phone to get roadside assistance if I wanted it. Are there any other benefits? What does it cost?

3. Navigation upgrade: this is my first DVD navigation system. My DVD says its copyright 2005 (so its the original). Is an upgrade worth it? Does anyone know if it upgrades the look and feel of the SW or is it just the destinations? Anyone know what they typically cost?

4. Bigger wheels/lower suspension: how big and low can you go? I really like the aggressive stance of the stock C55 and would want to maintain that slightly nose forward look but I would like less separation between the fender and the wheel. IN the sticky thread I saw lots of pics of people with 19s. How much of a mod does that take?

5. Phone: Do the phone controls really not work with bluetooth mobiles? Again, that seems retro for a 2006 MY car. Does anyone know of an aftermarket that can make the phone controls in Command work a bluetooth capable mobile? I've seen much older MBs and BMWs with such products installed and they seem to work great.

6. IPod integration kit: is this worth having? My dealer said there is already a plug in the glove compartment that will hardwire my iPod so it will play over the speakers using the "aux" button (and thus I don't have to use a monster broadcast cable, which doesn't work well where I live). Is that true? If so, does the integration kit do anything more than allow you to run the iPod menus using the steering wheel controls? Not sure that is worth the money if I can already get iPod audio with the stock plug.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

welcome to the board! i'm a newbie too but ill try to answer to the best of my ability....

1. dont think it exists. i had it on my is300 so i thought it was odd as well.
2. toss up, some people like it, some people people think its a waste since you have a cell phone. It was nice to have for my parents in their merc, when they could not make a call during their accident. there may be some issue with having to replace it with newer hardware. i believe its like $200-300 a year.
3. from my ebay hunting i think the newest you can get for the W203 is the MY2007 (2006) disc for around $100 give or take. i would say waste.
4. wheels i think you can throw on 20s, but it looks tacky. as for going low, any set of decent coils will make the car look dumped.
5. retrofitting with oe mercedes equipment seems to be REALLY expensive ($2,000+). there are some recent threads about the argos unit that some people purchased and waiting to have installed. some of these kits include an ipod adaptor but may disable your cd changer.
6. when you open your glove compartment you will see theres a 2.5mm plug on the right side top area. just plug in, press aux and you are good to go. i believe the factory ipod adaptor is around $400, where you can control via your steering wheel.

hope this helps!
