I can't believe that its not possible to lock the trunk with the mechanical key for valet use. Basically, we can't lock the trunk independently of the fob. Just venting.

Yup. Only for unlocking. It is for locking. You can lock it, but you can't remove the key. Gay.

have you tried turning it the other way??? If I turn mine one way, it locks but I can't remove the key, if I turn it the other way, it locks and I CAN remove the key.

 

Yes, tried both. In fact, I thought it was broken. The dealer laughed at me when they informed me about my error.

More the reason for me to never valet again.

 

Not unheard of for a Mercedes-Benz dealership to dispense poor or inaccurate information.

From the operator’s manual, “…When the trunk is separately locked, it remains locked when centrally locking the vehicle. To deny any unauthorized person access to the trunk, lock it separately with the key. Leave only the electronic key less its mechanical key with the vehicle…’’ It works exactly as described on mine.

Perhaps you can show them the description on page 41 and then insist they fix yours. Gratis.

Also, my page 41 in the manual is about something else. No mention of the trunk lock.

 

I can not lock the trunk on my 04 E Class either using the key that is removed from the key FOB. The dealer told me that the part number for the lock is the same from 03 thru 06 MY so I assumed that none of them will lock. Does anyone have a solution?

I have an '02 and mine locks just as Splinter posted. I just tried it to verify...

 

Mine definitely does NOT lock and was never meant to. I fought this pretty far... turns out, it was normal all along.

That seems...kinda pointless

 

There is a retrofit available to provide w203's with valet truck lock. Dealers can easily look it up and provide it.

 

why would you never valet again???

seems like a situation where you get a blister on your toe and decide to amputate your whole foot.

my 04' E500 and my 06' C55 have the same lock system. 1/4 turn counterclockwise allows you to manually open the trunk w/o the keyfob (aka when battery is dead) 1/2 turn clockwise locks the trunk so the keyfob and inside button dont work.

 

04. It seems several C Class and S Class cars just didn't have it in certain build years.

 

Crazeazn, When was your MY 04 E500 built? Mine was built 0n March 29, 04. Since MB was actively de-contenting the E Class in 04 it's possible yours was made before they removed the ability to lock. My key will not turn as far as yours in either direction and when turned it can not be removed.
