Throttle, pedal question.

I am doing some work on the car and have pulled the accelerator pedal.

I noticed the kickdown button is simply that a button, that just makes a noise.

What would be the harm of removing this?

I am guessing it is there just to make regular drivers have to give it that extra push to get it to kick down......

Let me know if you have any insight.

what kind of noise?
That button shifts the transmission one gear down when allowable.
It's there for a reason.

Yes it makes a loud click.

I pulled it out and it has no wires or anything going to it. Unless the system is magic I can not see how it would do anything.

I think it is only there to provide back pressure to force the driver to push hard enough for this spring loaded push button to depress. This would cause the accelerator to travel an extra 4 mm which the computer interprets as the kickdown.

Can anyone confirm this? I mean all it is is some plastic over a heavy duty spring. No magnets, no wires, no nada
