aftermarket gps unit question
hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone has a portable aftermarket gps unit in their cars, and if so, what are you using?? tom tom? garmin? other brands?
I received one back during christmas but it broke within the first day of using it. Apparently i cant keep it plugged into the cigarette lighter during startup So i am in search of one that, 1, can stay plugged into cigarette lighter at all times, and 2, knows when the car is on or off and will shut down automatically when i turn the car off (or have a 30 second delay and then shut off, whatever)
please let me know if anyone is using something that fits these 2 criteria. its really appreciated. and i dont really want to get a unit that replaces the stock head unit, which is why im looking for something that mounts to the dash or to the windshield. thanks again

my kenwood double din head unit uses garmin, its pretty much the best thing i have ever installed in a car. bluetooth, ipod, dvd, nav - everything. plus you are not driving around in a really nice car (not saying my c is really nice, but your's is pretty sweet) with a tacky gps unit suction cupped to your windshield, those are for ford's and chevy's not MB's.

i just looked it up, and saw some reviews...seems to be a very nice unit and is priced on the lower side of my range which is definitely a plus. so does it automatically turn off when power is shut off from the cigarette lighter? and can it be left plugged into lighter during startup?

We leave it in-it has an auto shut off-or keep in feature-when we turn the car off-it blips-and asks if you want to stay on-or it will auto off after 30 sec (you can set the time)-battery is pretty decent if you ever want to wander around with it (we did in a mall-was kinda kewl to play with)-has an SD card slot (cause I know you want to look at pictures on your gps unit)-
we have it mounted lower left on her Outlander and its barley noticable-as to the poster that doesnt like an MBZ with things suctioncupped to the windshield....there are a # of prodcuts I would argue that with (notably-my DashDaq).
Gl on the shop! (Hows the VR? I sold an Evo X for the C55-miss the mitsu's!)

it sounds like a good gps unit. and i do like garmin for a name brand. i think i'm sold. the vr4 is currently in storage till summer. its mainly weekends when it is out. i think ive put about 7k miles on it in the past 3 years...it was a full build up, ie engine, trans, heads, xfer case, turbo's & fuel system with all the gadgets...it will be nice to take it out in about a month or 2 and feel 21psi again...but its definitely not one for reliability...very temperamental

2002 C32 Black/Charcoal
Right Way 200 (manufactured by one of the big companies, I forget which)
It was $49.00 at Staples on special, not sure who has best price now.
Stupid name, great unit. Don't take my word for it, read reviews.

Garmin Nuvi 660 is a great unit. I have it for my other vehicles.
I have a double din Avic F series in my C32 now. That thing is amazing... NAVI, XM, HD, AM/FM, USB, SD, DVD, etc... I was able to pick it up new on eBay with the msn/live cashback and a coupon code for under $500. It is worth about $1000.
