HELP..! problem with cd changer or radio..

HELP..! problem with cd changer or radio..
so i was driving to work today bumpin Paul Revere by the Beasty Boys 
, about 5 minutes into the drive, the radio makes a big static crack and sound goes off. ok, i said maybe the cd's scratched a little. it starts playing againg for 30 seconds when it does it again..! this time it switched itself to the radio but with no sound coming out the speakers.. i press the cd button and it says NO CD CHANGER..! WTF..! i turn it off and back on, so it works again but 20 seconds into the jam, the same thing happends.. any body experience this same problem..? what could it be..? i know about stereo systems but ive never messed around with infrared lasers..
