19" wheel questions (new)

Hi All,

I promise I've searched (extensively) before posting this. I've spent four hours combing through threads at work today to answer all of my wheel related questions. I've figured out the tire size / offset debacle, and have heard everyone's opinions on size and weight. I also get the benefits of 18's vs. 19's. I'm running a stock wheel/tire/suspension set up. The only questions I have left are:

1) Does anybody have / or is it possible to have a 19" set up with absolutely no rubbing? Almost every post I've found people have said they have some form of rubbing (of course, most everybody has a lowered set up).

2) I've read all over that larger wheels means slower speed off the line. Some have also said fuel economy goes down. I guess my question here is if anybody can quantify these losses. How much does performance and/ or fuel economy deteriorate? How does wheel weight affect this? I did find one place where someone posted numbers, but it was only one person out of 1000's of posts and it was in the for sale thread (on Benzworld).

Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

cant say on ? #1-#2 will depend in the weight of the rim/tire package, road resistance of the tread, ambient air temp*humidity+IAT/MAP+MAF/IC temp at sea level, ect ect.
the above equation should net you somewhere in the neighborhood of .001-5 mpg loss.

Yeah, not sure if it was on our cars, but the thread I read claimed about a 5 mpg loss.

yes 19's can fit without rubbing... if you keep close to the same overall diameter and weight of the stock wheels i dont think you'll lose that much mpg...

a quarter mile at a time
19's can absolutely fit without rubbing AT ALL given the correct offsets, tire size and what tire is used.

I would say the difference in fuel economy is negligible.

I was making a (poor) effort to mess with him
Agree with the above-you should (almost always) keep the same aspect ratio when changing tires or rims or both-you should be good

... are always a good time.
I got the 19"s and my car rubs. Wait... I mean the wheels rub the car. What?

Actually, it is because the car has been dropped. But anything can be corrected to work.

dude, if your worried about mpg's, you should of bought a prius.. agreed with everyone else, you can fit 19"s with out rubbing.. i have RENNtech springs which lowerd the car 1.2"'s and 19"s with no issues.. just depends on the drop and tires you use..

i havent seen a dyno run with the difference between stocks and 19"s.. when i first got my 19"s, i definitely felt the difference between both wheels, but im not sure if their's actually a performance loss.. you can probably make up with some good street slicks..

Sorry for raising the dead here... but what size in particular tires would you need if you were to get 19 inch rims? Aren't the stock tires already pretty low profile? would we need to get our speed sensors recalibrated?

Front 235-35-19
Rear 265-30-19(edited from 365, lol)
You won't need any recalibrating, but it will be a little larger than OEM.

However, odds are you're gonna get some rubbing.

If 365 rubs just drop cut your fenders off, j/k gramma benz must have meant 265

The only rub I have is at full lock on the front and obviously at full lock you are going very slow...pulling out of a parking spot, etc. Other than than I'm golden with 19's!

BTW, if they don't rub a little you didn't go large enough! :-)

My Brabus 19s fit perfect without rubbing, unless I jump the car.

- is ET28/ET35 the stock offset?

- with 235's do you have the stretched look on your wheels? like such:
https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...cs-my-car.html
235 8.5 front
265 9.5 rear

i like the look of slightly fatter tires sitting on the rim opposed to a stretched look.

I agree 100% at least on my c55 but again I do have a special suspensions set up.

+1 with my previous wheels (TSW Bremmas, https://mbworld.org/forums/wheels-ti...-replicas.html) and my new 19" E63 reps, no rubbing unless I got some heavy rear passengers

These are the offset obtained from Carlsson to avoid rubbing and is perfit fit.
Tires at the front look great but the rears are a little stretch because the wheels are 10" wide, 9.5" is probably better.

!8" are the optimal size. I tried 19" factory monoblocks on my C55 with plus one sizing with 235f and 265r and they rub. Flared the wells, and ground down the inner edges. They still rubbed. MBZ doesn't tolerate much wider wheels than stock. Stick with 18" less weight, more tire options. !9" have the bling factor but they weigh more, tires cost more, brakes wear out faster. Whatever you do, don't get chrome wheels or chrome outers on a three piece. They corrode and cause bead leaks. A major PIA. In fact stay away from three piece if you can. Get a one piece forged wheel. HRE and Champions are nice.
