Shift boot and knob one piece?

My shift boot has a small hole in it that faces the glovebox. You can only really see it when the car is in D and you can't really see it when you're in the driver seat. I think it's from wear - the boot wrinkles in the same spot into a corner, which over time I think turned the corner into a hole.

Anyway, I was looking through EPC and saw that the shifter knob and boot seem to be one piece. Is this true? I was looking to buy the boot itself, but if you cant, then it looks like I might just have to live with it.

Ideas/knowledge?

It is actually 2 pieces. Its sold as one unit but they are joined by a pressure clip and ring under the knob. I have a boot around here somewhere from my 05 C55. Let look around. I'll let you know if I find it.

Edit: Sorry looked around for but could not find it. I am sure its in this house somewhere ( with a 31/2 year old on the loose with his friends it could be anywhere) so if I find it i'll let you know and mail it down to you.

North, how do you have a "spare" boot? Did you buy a different knob that came with one?

Edit: and by the way, I just checked out your pix of your C63, and it looks sick. I also LOVE that AMG logo on top of your knob! I think that's gonna be my next mod...or at least look into it, or how to do it somehow..

You can't. He got it special from germany AMG ($$$) and you pretty much can't buy it.

I'm currently investigating to see if I can make a replica, but due to the complexity it doesn't look like it's going to be cheap. You can end up buying a Carlsson/Brabus/Schatz knob for the same price, so why would buy a cap for the stock bland knob. Regardless, I think the cap look AWESOME.

I don't think it's from wear. Get a tailor to look at it, they can probably stitch it up. Or try on of those leather glues.

Anyone on here have a spare boot from their C55? If not, I'm going to make a post in the W203 forum and possibly in the classifieds. If not, I'll have to hit up ebay.......

PS - I think I might pick up a black birds eye maple shift knob from Schatz. It doesn't look like the cap is going to be feasible to do for a reasonable price, even if we did a bunch of them for a group purchase. The Schatz knob is only about $65 shipped from ebay, so I really can't complain or bargain with that.
