On the debate of production numbers, those numbers are not production numbers. They are sales figures for the U.S. market only. AMG doesn't make production numbers available for some reason. The real production numbers could be twice those and vary signficantly from the sales numbers per model.

I think Private Lounge has published them many times for US production numbers..............

Isn't this an old thread???

No, they have never published production numbers. The numbers are estimates of sales figures in the U.S. There is a big distinction. Production numbers indicate how many cars rolled out of the factory for world wide consumption. The numbers quoted above, which the PL has posted, are estimates of how many of those were actually sold in the U.S. by dealerships.

If you send an email to Mercedes asking them for produciton numbers, they will kindly reply that they do not make this information public.

There is a statistic that AMG sells 50% of it's cars in the U.S. So you can only guess that total production number would be about twice as much as the sales figures. Which still isn't a very good guess due to the lack of information.

** You and I (and many on this forum) are Private Lounge members. I do know that the "sales numbers" (not production) have in fact been posted by the AMG Team. They are "estimated" BUT its about the best we can get from them. Regardless, the numbers are quite enlightening to what the truly rare AMG cars are?? Topgear has also posted some under the moniker "production numbers" , BUT who knows if this is accurate?? C43, last year, very rare. C32 , last year, very rare. C55 last year for US was 2006 , pretty rare. E55 wagon, really really rare!!! (64 for US sales 2006) . If you see a C32 or a C55, chances are its an early production model rather than final year, since on both there weren't many.

Sure, I agree with you on that . All I'm trying to say is that it could be possible that more cars were produced for a particular model year, just not offered as much in the U.S. There were also model years that were not available in the U.S. at all, such as the 2007 C55. As far as rarity is concerned, those sales figures do add values for those of us who live in the U.S. It's just hard to draw conclusions (make that guess) based on those numbers about the company because it operates on a global scale. i.e. Differences between C32 and C55 and development cost involved.

...btw, do you have a link to topgear's production number posting? Curious to see it. I tried searching, but didn't find anything. Thanks.

Apologies, this may take things a bit off topic, but there may be a way where we can estimate the total production numberes of engines worldwide. There is a statistic out there, don't remember the number about how many engines per day are produced in Affalterbach. Using this information we can make some guesses about the number of AMGs worldwide, and then break that down based on the numbers we have for the U.S. sales figures.

Don't know how this thread got so off topic, but here are the global sales numbers for the all C-AMG cars (excluding the C63 AMG). This is taken from the 2007 MB press release for the C63 when it was introduced. I don't think you will get any more official information than this. I've posted this before on this board. The listed years are the "in production" years, not model years. This includes sedans and wagons sold across the world.

C 36 AMG (W 202) 1993 - 1997 5400
C 43 AMG (W/S 202) 1997 - 2001 3850
C 55 AMG (W/S 202) 1999 - 2001 59
C 32 AMG (W/S 203) 2001 - 2004 8250
C 55 AMG (W/S 203) 2004 - 2007 4600
