Oil filter seal leakage, onto the belt.

I used an aftermarket oil filter and it seems that the O-ring isnt quite keeping some oil from seeping out. Turns out that it is dripping a little bit onto the belt. There is kind of a sticky residue left over on the belt and the pulleys.

Obviously I plan on replacing the filter and the o-ring as soon as I get a chance. Will also wipe down the belt and pulleys. Other than the potential for some slip has anyone had an experience with this and is there much danger?

Other than the potential for belt slip and slinging oil, I don't see much harm if you catch it early and remedy it.

You say you used an aftermarket filter; did the filter come with new O-rings? Did you replace them all?

If you did not replace the O-rings and the top one failed due to deterioration (the one sealing the cap) I would be afraid one of the smaller (and more important) ones might fail for the same reason and damage the motor. If you did replace the O-rings, the top one may not have been seated properly in it's land.

I did replace the O rings. It is seated correctly, maybe its just that fraction of a whatever too small but im going to replace it all once the weather is a little less harsh. I have something else to drive in the mean time.

OEM is less than 20 bucks why would want the hassle?

Are you sure that the oil is coming from there. I had a problem and I could not figure out where it was coming from. The oil cooler was the culprit with oil leaking from both the top. I do not know how long the oil was leaking, but I'm pretty sure it was less than a month because I had recently done the spark plug change and there was not oil leak.

The oil leaked directly on the belt and just slipped right off. Luckily this happened right in my drive way, other wise I would have been stuck. You definitely need to get the problem taken care of because your belt is bound to slip, just like mine did.

I am pretty certain it is coming from the filter cap. When I wiped it all down and looked later it was the most apparent source. Hopefully, it is the only one.
