Suspension noises when cold

My car is completely stock from a suspension point of view.

In the last 2 years, I would notice a low pitched "creaking" sound (not a high pitched like a squeak) from the suspension when there is signficant compression/rebound on the suspension (like going over speed bumps). It actually happens at each corner of the car. However, this only happens when the temperature is relatively cold. In the spring/summer, I never hear anything abnormal. I've reported this to dealer in the past, and they said nothing seems abnormal or needs replacing (although my once annual service appointment is always in the spring when it's warm).

In the last week, it has been pretty cold here (-10 to -15 degrees Celsius), and this "creaking" sound much more obvious than before.

Any thoughts from my fellow W203 C-AMG car owners? Are the suspension bushings going?......or is it simply the metal suspension components (like spring) creaking just because it's very cold?

I hear the same sound in my suspension over speed bumps as well when cold. I always just figured it was because of the cold as well. I recently had the bushings in my suspension replaced and I thought that might take care of the noise but nope still there.

I too get the suspension creak during our recent coldsnaps where it was 28* here in Miami a few weeks back. It was least of my worries (until this post) since my house was so cold (Solid Concrete Walls) and no heater. It was Brutal!!!

Hey PC:

Being a veteran of the track

I will tell you to look VERY closely at ALL of your control arm bushings. Often, during hard tracking, they get VERY hot and can actually push out/in on their mounting barrels. I have had this phenomena happen to MANY track cars. If one has moved a little, they really sing/shine in the cold because now they are harder, aka cold and are not setting square within their cups. Take a look, as I have pushed one or two during my tracking time.

Good luck my friend.

I had the same issue until the radius control arm bushings or something along those lines was replaced. Now it's nice and quiet........

Definitely take a look at the lower control arm bushings and ball joints, something could be getting worn. Since it happens when you go over speed bumps, these are very likely where the creak is coming from.
