anyway, I just changed out the filters on my 204. I have drove it yet, but the stock paper filter is huge inside the 272 airbox. the front inlet is basically blocked 60-70% by the side slab of the filter. the K&N is much thinner in comparison which it doesn't block the inlet at all.

Well I guess Kleemann has their reasons for their SC applications. I was also thinking that this rear mounted TB lends itself to some sort of hood mod with a flat panel filter integrated into the rear grill area. I think that option has been talked about here before. I would not want to go the chevy rear scoop hood route tho-

I think something like that would make it easier for the engine to suck the air in. It might not look as good as the stock setup, but the stock air box doesn't seem like it would work too well for maximizing air flow.

I am going to try and work something up in a couple weeks. I will start a thread do discuss my plans, reasoning, and post pictures. Stay tuned (pun intended)!

Could you provide us some feedback on that setup? That is exactly what I was thinking about doing.

I would like to go with something chromed or polished though. How much were you looking to get for that setup? Was it easy to install?

What kind of feedback do you have for us on performance? Fuel economy?

It looks like you could move your battery to the trunk, and put the air filter where the battery used to be. Just a thought...... looks like nice access to cool air where the battery is located.

I'm thinking Kleeman does not rec any aftermarket air filter with the blower install to min the chances of bad MAS signal and detonation and engine damage if filter is over-oiled.

You can get away with poor MAS readings N/A....... but with forced induction a BAD MAS reading... IE - lean with our high comp 11:1 will lead to engine failure.... coupled with the fact that our pistons are cast ...... not forged....... you're playing with fire.

I ran some aftermarket filters out of the box on my N/A CLK and the MAS crapped out in 2000 miles.......... when it crapped out the car bucked bad, and would not idle...... the scary part was that the issue did not crop up at all until I was WOT @ 5K rpm under full load and the engine bucked really bad......... limped home, threw a MAS code..... new MAS and all is good.

what messes up the mas is the oil in the filter
i had renntech airbox with k and n filters and my mas went bad after like 20000 miles

this setup has a dry filter

Yeah I ran a 13.1@107.7 with heavy 19" wheels and nothing but a tune. Since then I put headers, new tune and have 18" wheels and DR's on the back but I didn't make it to the strip before the season was over

13.0-13.2 is a total sleeper time for a non AMG...I drove my friend's stock clk500 and definitely did not feel anywhere near the 13 second range...thats awesome.
