Does insurance cover cracked rims?

Today I discovered that my right rear rim is cracked on the inside. A new wheel will run me $1050 according to the dealership's part store. Any ideas if insurance will cover it? I'm afraid of contacting them if the answer is no, and if such a question/claim would automatically put me in some high risk category resulting in raised premiums.

You didnt get in an accident, im assuming? there is no claim or police report filed so your insurance shouldnt go up just to ask them a question. and im gonna say no they wont cover it...

Well, it can't hurt to ask. My son hit a curb and broke a rim and ruined a tire. Pretty sure the ins. co. paid something for it.

I honestly am wondering the same thing. I'm always careful when I go over bumps, and I've learned to avoid all the bumpy lanes and potholes on the GCP and the LIE!! And still this. Doesn't look too serious, and it's not leaking air, but would like to get it taken care of before it becomes anything serious.

I went over an overpass and the transition in the roadway from asphalt to concrete was worn and crappy and it broke both front wheels on my c55 (WALD wheels) and the insurance company paid out for them. not a great payout but enough to get the linea corse lemans wheels im running now.

Did your insurance go up after that? Do they classify it as an accident?

I am fairly sure that this would be considered a collision claim. The reason being that you would have to be moving in order to have this happen.

I had a cinder block fall off a pick up truck that I was following. I ended up hitting and breaking 2 wheels and tires. My insurance considered it collision. However, due to the circumstances it was a non-chargeable accident and did not affect my rates.

I've had the wheel examined by my own mechanic and the dealer. Given that the crack is fairly minor, a new rim isn't necessary, so I'll have the wheel refinished. It's cheap enough that I won't even bother with the insurance, but good to know they may cover it judging from all of your experiences.

Good for you!

On the other hand it would be a good time to do a 4 wheel slide into a curb if you were so inclined

your insurance company will be able to get you new wheels for a couple hundred bucks. It's just barely more expensive than getting wheels refinished.
good luck!

My mechanic said it's a defect, and that's why I took it to the dealer. Dealer absolutely denied it. I honestly don't know if it's worth the fight.
