Does anyone know what is under the FRONT oil pan on the C55?

Does anyone know what is under the FRONT oil pan on the C55?
I changed my oil and service my transmission last Saturday and after I started the car up and lifted it back up to check for leaks I realized that annoying whining on startup that we're all told is normal is coming from something inside the front part of the oil pan (note this probaby only applies to the C55 since the oil pan is "saddle bagged"). Does anyone know what is in there? I sure hope the oil pump isn't making that noise.

I know the AIR pump makes noise (which I still think is crap), but I heard the whining the loudest at the front part of the oil pan with a stethoscope. I really want to know what is under there though, I looked at some of the parts pictures on getmercedesparts and couldn't really find anything.
