2011 Z-06 V. GTR

Just received my latest Automobile Mag in the mail. July 2010 . There's a test on 4 performance cars. Page 59. FYI, the 2011 Z-06 is quicker and faster than the 2011 GTR they tested it against (as well as a Lotus Evora and a Porsche 911 S. ) Qtr. Mile for the Vette was 11.8 at 125 MPh and the GTR was 11.9 at 121 MPH. I 'd say thats not a whooping BUT a pretty good testament to the Vette!!!

His mama. Traded y0 mama in because she was squeaking.
I would have expected the vette to be quicker in the 1/4....

Yeah, try and get a 2011 GTR for $85,340 sticker!! I'd imagine you could get the Z-06 out the door for a LOT less than a 2011 GTR!!

Just reporting on the performance, thats all!! For the $$, the Z-06 is a serious value.

FYI, the Vette Z-06 beat the GTR in braking , top speed and lateral grip as well. Just an observation!!

I'd probably do the GTR, BUT the Vette is a serious car for the $$ and the clamps from the ZR-1 are unreal!!

Lol. Some people actually want to drive a car with some *****. By that...I mean one with a V-8 and a REAL manual transmission. Not that stupid paddle shifting ****.

Whoops!... misread Z06 for ZR1.

Not a bad value for the dough at all! But I would still take the GTR for tuneability.

Good Point Xander, BUT perhaps it'll have a CF driveshaft and that'll help?? Is Paddle shifting even shifting or just "joy-stick" driving?? I don't know, ask any Airbus Industries pilot???

Some people seem to think that it's just as real. Car companies aim advertising for their manual-shift/automatic transmissions towards people who want some of the sporty aspect of driving a manual transmission (manually selecting gears) without having to do any of the work (operating a clutch).

There are two camps on this one. Some people seem to like the modernization and lack of a traditional control yoke. Boeing decided to stay with what they had and opted to keep the traditional yoke for pilots that don't like change. I bet that it would be weird for a veteran pilot to go from using a yoke to using a control stick that resembles his/her kids joystick.

after seeing the gtr perform in real life. I can definitely appreciate the tech that went into making that 4000lb boat perform like a 3100lb sports car.

But for me, i wouldn't mind going a little slower if the car is more comfortable and looks a lot better..lol.

The z06 vs the gtr is more like analog vs digital. Commodore vs playstation. Everyone has there preferences. But the technology in the gtr is the way of the future.

We can talk all day long about this subject but all I can say is that it is a very subjective test. I probably have like 95% of all the car magazines in which the Z06 and the GTR were tested. I myself owned a C6 Z06 and after 4 month I modded it heavily. I once wanted to get a GTR new but wasn't going to happen with the $20000-$25000 mark ups.

I have seen a best of 3.4 sec 0-60mph in a Z06(don't look, you wouldn't find anycar magazine showing any better)and I have seen a 11.5@127mph, again, don't look any further because that is the best car test I ever seen in a car magazine testing a Z06.

In contrast, I have seen the GTR tested at 12.0@116mph(worst) and some high 11's at around 120mph (most of the test).
The fastest and quickest stock record on a Z06 is from Jamie Furman and Ranger, these two guys both ran 10.9@128-129mph in their one stock Z06's(just google it).

I no longer get excited when I see these comparos no more, I already know the deal. The GTR will pull more consistent ET while the Z06 is more consistent on the traps. My .2c

You can also add acceleration from a roll (at any speed) and also gas mileage and cargo room.

Depends on the vehicle here. A Mitsubishi Outlander with paddle shifters, yes. A GT-R, doubtful. For the same reason Ferrari will no longer offer a 6-speed on the 458 Italia, there is no mechanical advantage, performance wise, over an automated 'box. The automated 'boxes are quicker, more accurate, and often times more efficent (fuel wise). For example, Porsche's PDK 'box can shift faster than any professional could otherwise shift a 6-speed, plus its 3 mpg more efficient than a traditional transmission.

One starts to wonder if someday we will all be calling traditional 6-speed's "slushboxes"....

I wouldn't own a GTR as a gift if I had to keep it. Looks like origami sheet metal gone bad in my book. I could care less about the performance numbers, the thing is a sled at 4,000 lbs. plus. The transmissions are made of monkey metal and fail routinely, then they aren't covered under warranty. The owner gets the news he's on the hook for $20k plus for another crap gearbox. WOW, where is the line of morons waiting to pay a bonus for this pile of Japanese garbage. Pass.

keep hating.

there's an affordable aftermarket mod for the transmission now that allows one to beat the living **** out of the trans with no issues.

Which is totally nullified after the retarded markup paid for it...

I am far beyond what one would normally be titled "enthusiast". I am THOUROUGHLY obsessed with performance car and even car i wouldnt drive i will definitely give them credit when it is due....

But these two cars are just sooo obnoxious. One (the corvette) i personally have ONLY seen complete hicks drive who have SERIOUS compensation issues (usually having to do with unbridled machismo or mid/later-life crisis, etc). The corvette is just another example of cheap American garbage that was built (like most American products) to satisfy a mission staement of quantity over quality to make the largest possible profit from the least amount of work and input. It is a shining microcosm of the american disposition towards maximum reward for minimum work, and has the same effect with the passing of time as this national corporate attitude (it is junk and will lead to hardship and repair after repair).

The other (the GTR) the wet dream of every mindless suburban teenager who has clinically overdosed on American idol, XBox and the Fast and the Furious movie franchise. Its like an upgrade for Nissan Z drivers (who are almost all douchebag drones. Same fade hair cut, over obsession with going to the gym, same Oakley sunglasses, same Affliction T-shirt, same corny club music, same tribal tattoos, same taste for fake breasts). Though this car is a technological tour de force (as opposed to a lazy, ridiculously oversized, low revving, LOW LOW efficiency, push rod V8).

cool story bro
even though most everything you mentioned is

only idiots and ricers whine about hp per liter. that low revving push rod V8 revs to 7,000RPM (more than your LOLc32) and obliterates everything in its price range.

everything else that you posted is just crap as well...

keep hating.
