This specific hood vent in the front is designed to create down force on the front of the car from the air coming in via the grill and goes out and over the front vents to create the downward pressure to improve handing, not really dissipate heat. Similar to the function of a rear spoiler.

You would need a hood designed similar to the old muscle cars that are vented in the back of hood to create a vacuum to extract out the heat.

A good real world example - pop your sun roof open and drive at 55mph, notice how it sucks the air out of the cabin to keep it cool... but also allows some minimal cool air in. The air passing over the glass create a vacuum to extract the air from the opening.

The other options look cool, but your just asking for trouble when it rains, unless you design it with a rain collector that can divert the water away from the engine.

I do understand what you're saying, but I also think that the same vacuum could be created by vents such as these, sucking out extra hot air.

And I always thought the old muscle car hoods such as the Cowl Induction Hood, was designed so that the air hitting the windshield rolled at the base of the windshield/hood thus forcing air into the reverse hood scoop and feeding extra air to the intake. When idling, it can serve to exhaust heat.

As far my Idea, I just did it to see if it worked, I made the measurements and workout the stress points... as you can in the pics I didn’t just cut the entire thing. I left 3 parts that I haven't cut (The middle part which covers my Intake, The Y pipe/Sensor, and the throttle body along with its electronics, Then I left 2 others in tacked as they separate the firewall and they are one of the stress points. I didn’t take a picture of the final product so in the pics it looks like I'm half assing it but I curved the middle part in to ensure there would be no dripping (If any were to) on the intake. ) of rain, snow or whatever. The parts that are open show the Intake manifold pipes along with a partial view of the intake manifolds. I notice after a hard run out side the car I could feel it dissipating a lot of heat from the vents (Way more than before) I also notice when driving I had my IAT’s up and they were a tad lower than normal after the warm up I give it (Had my OBDII Monitor) anyway, I thought I just share what I did, You can love it, hate or judge it, I don’t really care since its not yalls car, its mine.. My objective was not to cut huge holes, my car is not to be judged as a ricer, I wanted something stealthy and not flashy... This was it...

the amount of rain going into these hood vents are not enough to damage anything. you get more water going through your front grille when driving in the rain than your hood vent.

i'm still all for the brabus vents, but it takes a skillful guy to cut them that perfectly.

I think that the hood looks good, but I'm still not 100% sure that I really like it. I'm not even sure if the vents are functional and the price is really high for the hood as well.

You can find them on ebay and I think they come only from China, but it cost almost 1k.

in my personal opinion, i think the large hood vents and louvers makes the amg look like a rice type of auto zone add on. Just saying.

But I would like to do something like opening the existing vent like the pictures above show. Keeping with the over engineered theme of things.. maybe build a small motorized close flap. Have it close when the car turns off by relay, and or switch operate it. Put in a baffle of sorts, and/or water proof the electronics. Just some more ideas to make the more practical mod shown above safer in regards to water.

Where I have it cut, it will not leak on anything electrical plus the heat of the engine while driving would evaporate any water or such. Parked, I washed my car with a hose and directed a lot of water toward the vents.... The only thing the water hits is the back of the Intake manifolds, and the Intake manifold pipes.... (Big deal, Those are 2 things I want to remain cool anyway) Both are rust free material , from there the liquid leaks onto the plastic cover underneath the engine which then drains to ground.... The way I cut and designed it, No water or such can touch the Throttle body, the Electrical plugs around it or beneath it along with the code 3 intake.

the only thing you have to really worry about is getting water into the valley of the engine where the intercooler sits. There's not real drainage for the water to leave, so any water in the valley will sit there until evaporated. This wouuldn't be a problem but except the engine harness sits there.

The engine harness is sealed but i wouldn't have electrical cables sitting in standing water thats will heat up. I think its a receipe for disaster.

I was looking at those hoods. I think the CF one would be sweet and I would leave it as is. The fiberglass one is cheaper and would need to be painted. My concern would be getting it matched perfectly with the rest of the car.

Has any one tried to relocate the air temp sensor???

My friend suggested it so I'll try it for A week to see how it responds , so far so good the car is a beast! Now like never b4 ! But I really want to make sure it will not damage the engine .

Relocated the air temperature sensor? Please explain more... If you're talking relocate from charge air to cooler intake air that is certainly not a good idea. It's there to pull timing if temperatures rise too high, and that is protecting the engine.
