my factory navigation stereo is weird sometimes

i turned on my radio today and noticed it was very unclear, usually it's super clear. it came back to normal after about a minute. in that time, i turned it to cd and it was also unclear. my car still has the cpo warranty so it's covered, but my family owns a car stereo shop chain and i sorta feel like an idiot for not knowing the problem. maybe a bad amp pre-out? opinions please

The factory navigation unit has caused a few different problems with many members on our forum, but the information that you listed could be attributed to some thing else as well. I know that our radio reception is dependent on the antenna that is built into our rear window. If any thing were to mess up the antenna built in to the rear window, you would need to replace it. The navigation unit can stay on while the car is off and cause battery drain.

Your problems seem to be intermittent and could be due to loose cables our faulty equipment. I would see if there is any thing in particular that triggers these things to occur.

When I removed my oem radio and amp, the cd player would no longer come on. I was trying to get CD's out of it, but that didn't happen. I assume that the CD changer receives power through the head unit. I did notice that the signal is transferred through fiber optics or some sort of red and green cables.

Luckily for you, you have warranty. Electronics is the only thing I do not like to deal with on my car, but I'm sure I will have to learn eventually about them.

Mine has done this same exact thing on 4 different occasions since I purchased the car. I dont know what causes it but it is very annoying the sound comes through but sounds really tinny and kinda muffled. First time it happened I just turned the car off and back on and it worked as normal, the next two times that didnt work initially so I went into work pissed. Then once I came back out for lunch it worked like normal.

I had my unit swapped out due to a different issue and then it ended up doing it a 4th time. I thought that would fix this but nope.

So basically I have no clue what causes it but I have experienced the same thing over the past 2 and half years.

Mine did this once. I thought it might have to do with bluetooth or I-pod kit?

thank you all for the help i really appreciate it. yea i don't think it's the head unit itself that is causing the problem, i think it has something to do with the signal (this fiber optic stuff europe loves using) or something internally with the amp going out on me. it's only done it twice and last time it happened was about a week ago. the only think i noticed about the two times it did do it was that it was parked in direct sunlight. so you aren't going to do anything about it thegreatfnr?
