Is the heater or AC on at all? Coolant message is either low fluid in engine coolant reservoir or low windshield washer fluid. Both tied into the same screen message.

A bad ecm can cause the fan to stay on
I service Bosch control units for a living so I am aware of the fan problem. This is really common for 2002 to 2004 c240 and c320. Other models may have the same issue. The ecm controls the fan so when the ecm fails then the fan stays on and runs constant. I recommend going to a Mercedes dealer to make sure you get a proper diagnosis. If the ecm is the issue then this site is much cheaper compared to the dealer http://www.mercedesecm.com Again, go to the dealer first to make sure the ecu is in fact defective.
