To buy or not to buy a C55....
Make sure the suspension doesn't squeak, its pretty common.
I think the price is alittle high unless your getting a warranty for a few years.
For that price you could get a E55 or even a decent S class
The insurance rates are often irrelevant to those purchasing an AMG and yes, the S600 and S65 are in Corvette territory, BUT he's asking if the price of the C55 is reasonable and consensus is, its NOT!!!
That was a GREAT deal for you my friend IMHO

Here's another issue. 11 K on a 5 year old (6) car? Salvage title that was washed in another state?? Happens all the time. Some states require that the salvage designation follow the car its whole life "for that state". Problem is, if it was originally OUT OF STATE there's no guarantee that it wasn't taken to a state that removes the salvage title (or rebuilt if you will). Regardless, drive it and see if you like it.................like poster above ^^^^ says, negotiate and negotiate some more.........................
OT: CarFax/AutoChek misses things all the time too, sometimes through no fault of their own. For example, if the car was in a bad wreck and the owner and/or insurer (carrier) doesnt report it to Polk/Carfax (and many don't) and the body shop who repairs it doesnt (and most don't, particularly on cash repair deals), the Car Fax and also AutoCheck (which I believe is Experian) miss accident damage many times because of this. There's been much litigation on this issue if you Google it...........

That's news to me, I was under the impression that a salvaged title stays with the vehicle it's whole "life".

wrecked it more times than I have fingers or toes, and when I sold it, it had a CLEAR CARFAX
I went as far as to inform the new owner that this wasn't the case, and that the car was wrecked, as in 11K in damage for a Taurus

Morale of the story, Buyer beware, and cautious. If it sounds to good to be true, it just might be.
Here are some tips on how to tell.
Front end collision:
- Front bumper uneven
- Black metal grill pieces are uneven, broken, missing
- Gaps around headlights uneven
- Sunroof doesn't close properly/leaks
Rear end collision:
- Rear plastic portion of headrests looks tampered with, or has marks. There is a safety feature where the headrests pop out forward in the event of a rear end crash. It is fairly tricky to restore the headrests, often resulting in scratching the surrounding surfaces with tools.
- Usual body panels don't align
- Trunk doesn't close properly, etc...
Even though Carfax may be clean, the vehicle can come with a repair report. See if any panels were replaced/fixed.
MB's are NEVER good investments, and its going to be worth LESS then what you paid for it. The best return on your investment will be in the enjoyment of owning and driving the car. So just make sure you do your research, ensure everything fits, works, and enjoy the car for what it is. And if you end up paying "too much," according to others, then the car is simply worth more to you, then somebody else

Suggested Retail Value
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices for a used car, and the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history, but has not been certified in accordance with any Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program the automaker may offer (for which it may or may not qualify, according to factors such as vehicle age and mileage). This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions.

My friend, you really need to get out more, and I ma not trying to bust your stones here either. You would know it if I was, trust me

Note ONE AMG I have ever seen that actually sold, met these two price line criteria.
I dare you to go into a MB dealer and say I want X for my __AMG because KBB and NADA say so

Look around and see what they actually sell for my friend. You will truly be surprised.
PS: NADA said my S600 should go for 39K, and I can assure you that I did not pay anywhere close to that.

+1, I've seen some 05-06 S65 going for the high 30, low 40 range and they were $191,000 new!! KBB says they're worth 55-60K

I wish you all the luck in the world, as your attitude towards those that have been around a little more than you certainly speaks volume.
Good luck and go pay NADA/KBB for a car

PS: I bought my car two years ago, but most of the knowledgeable people around here already knew that Einstein
