I just purchased a C55 and it has an I-pod connector in the glove box next to the changer. The only way I can get sound out of the ipod is when I go the "AUX" audio input screen.

Since I have the navigation unit shouldn't I be able to control the ipod via head unit? I did not see any instructions for this in the factory manual.

You can only control it from the steering wheel. It's not an out of factory add-on.

no, it was not meant to do that. we sell a part at our store that allows you to do that though, completely aftermarket setup though. but there is a way to get your ipod to charge through that.

so will my ipod charge through this "ipod cable" that is installed on the car? Also is there a way to switch through folders on the ipod or is it a simple "next track" thing?

To get the charging function you can either buy an updated cable.

6-7-82-4531 which requires some installation.

or get the adapter that plugs on the end of the cable.

The unit was not designed to function on the command screen only via the instrument cluster which you can access by pressing the buttons on the left side of the steering wheel.

How about switching between folders and artist? Is this possible or can I only use it as a "track by track" function like a cd?

Its not an "ipod" cable if it is only a single pole like a headphone, its aux input cable. You can not control any functions on the ipod at all, the only steering wheel functions available when using that setup are volume.
