Wow, this begs a LOT of questions, BUT the big one I have is ( and I know Alumar's car very well) : What's the value of a low-mid mileage C55 (2005-or 06) in light of the fact that this car was basically a Kleemann S7 and ONLY sold for $20 K. Even the parts alone for the new Autorotor/tune/cooling mods are worth $10 K, not including install. Note that his Autorotor was brand new as well when he traded the car about 8 months ago. All you C43 guys doing the 55 conversion would have been better off buying this car and saving your $$. PLus, this is a car that would legitimately beat a stock C63 and its only $20 K to boot. His car even had the Quaife and other mods. Originally Posted by 91RS

Someone got a good deal on a nice car!!!

I don't know...I think it all depends on how you market the car. You have to sell a vision and find someone who shares that same vision. There's no way I would have let that car go for $20k.Originally Posted by 91RS

I sold my Monaro converted GTO for $5k more than market value, essentially recouping the majority of the money spent on modifying it. I suppose it depends on the car and what all is done.

+1, there's NO way I'd let ole Nelly (mine) go for that although I have a LOT less miles and am one year newer as well. Like I said above, ^^, Someone got a real steal on a nice C55 Kleemann. I can't speak for Mike (Alumar) BUT I can't ever see him letting the car go for that amount. ONE man's pain is another's gain............

I think parting the upgrades out and than selling it as a stock C55 would be a lot better...

I'm the anticipated happy new owner of Alumar's C55. I agree its almost sad that it went for the same coin as a Cobra Mustang or CTSV, but that is the reality with E55's at lower mileage and some mod's selling for mid 20's.
I am an enthusiast, so the car has fell into good hands, though I usually lean toward the Air Cooled variety from Stuggart. I've followed Alumar's car since my first MB in 2005. I look forward to taking physical ownership soon. At which point I had picked up the first C350 in the midwest....nice but not in the same league. It was a family taxi, this will be a fast taxi
I also might be interested in taking that pulley off your hands for reasonable fee, Alumar if you have no use for it.
The saddest point, though I'm all too glad to get it at reserve, was that I was 4 of the bids and there were no other over 17k if I recall correctly.

Grats luke! You will not be disappointed!
It will more than exceed your expectations! ... Just be careful turning off the traction control, it will break loose even doing 30mph ....
Cant wait to see what you do with it!!

Per input from PTE I've been running my Clk S8 in comfort mode, much better for daily driving:
Observations:
1. Since starts in 2nd gear don't have to hold brake down as much at stop lights...
2. you can punch it in traffic without fear of breaking tires loose all the time.... only downshifts 1 gear instead of two from what I can tell.....
Enjoy and be safe. I got a warning(from popo) my 3rd day of having my car back from klee usa.

alumar:
I've got a lot on my plate right now (Moto GP and Salt Flats). Hoping to get it shipped up in another week or so. Will update this thread upon arrival. Again, I've follwed "your" car from the beginning and has always been an interest of mine. Who would've thunk that I might one day own the exact car. Sure has turned out less expensive than copying your car....which had crossed my mind in past
I'll be in touch.
