Oil smoke
I have 05 C55 with 77k miles. Something strange happened yesterday which I hope someone can shed some light. On I-85 outside of Charlotte while playing with a Mustang GT, I notice a trial of blue smoke behind my car. The Mustang guy was kind enough to follow me at an exit and told me that the car was pouring out a trail of blueish/black smoke. The car ran fine, idled fine, and the smoke could not be replicated. I must add that at the time of incident I was running rather hard. Today, I again drove the car hard and no issue whatsover. Anyone has any suggestion as to what it may have happend? By the way, the Mustang guy was very impressed at the way the car pulled away with no chance of catching up. Thanks
If I rem correctly... white smoke water.... blue/black smoke oil or rich extra fuel...... not very scientific.... but an idea.
If car has no codes, no CEL, still has good power, starts, runs, idles as before.... then perhaps you're good.
There are many bad possible causes of smoke (in large qty's)..... which you really don't want to entertain..... blown head gasket (you'll see drop in power, coolant consumption, possible mix of coolant oil...... stuck pcv valve - oil can get sucked in to intake.... over-filled oil issues...... clogged air filters causing rich condition..... etc.... etc...
If you owned a shop and were really wanting to double check, you could do a full leakdown check of the cyl's, inspect the plugs, and go from there.
But if you're like me.... just drive it a while to confirm no issues show up.
Watch coolant levels, oil level, and CEL, and loss of power. GL>
