Another Smog Pump option

So my Smog pump went out and since it's a fairly expensive part to replace, I went searching for other options. On eBay, I saw this one guy who rebuilt these pumps for Audi's and VW's. They're bosch pumps too, so I asked him if he could repair mine. He said he'd check it out and if he couldn't fix it, no charge. If he can fix it, it's $85. The smog pump is really easy to remove/reinstall, so labor isn't an issue.

So I sent him mine and his first reply was:

I received your pump motor yesterday. I'm gonna be working on it tonight. My only concern is badly overheated brushes, which could cause windings to burn. Also brushes enclosure is melted and tipped the brushes, so they are not perpendicular to the rotor. Again, let me see what I can do. I will let you know how it goes.
PS. Just in case, can you give me a year, make and model of your vehicle, maybe I can find some internal parts if needed. Thanks

Then he checked it out and sent this back:
Good news!
Your pump motor was successfully rebuilt and it works great!
I was able to realign brushes tunnels, I think it's gonna last long. Also I replaced both motor bearings, rotor and stator were cleaned.
Unfortunately I'm not gonna be able to ship it out today, but I will do that Monday morning.
I will also send you an invoice to pay, just give me your email address.
Thanks!

So once I get it back and installed, I'll update....

But this is him on eBay if anyone else needs theirs rebuilt.

Nice find! The noise my smog pump makes is starting to get louder than usual. I have a feeling it will go anytime soon and I'm just waiting for the CEL. This might be a good alternative.

Keep us posted on how much was the total charge. If you could also post some pics, that would be great!

Thank you!!

Thank you for such great info! Wish I would have found this out before I spent $400 on a new pump...will have my old pump repaired as a back up.
