Shift Knob Question

So this isn't probably what you think it's gonna be

I'm a student, and I spend a little bit of time in the machine shop, and have some experience there, and have some metal I've done some work on (we basically had to make a hammer ) and the handle, because of the knurling we did, could make a sweet replacement for the shifter on our cars, since they are so dull.. Now my problem is, I have to figure out how exactly the shifter attaches, and duplicate this, so my questions is if any of you have any details there. If I'm not mistaken, it should just slide on very snugly, and if this is the case I need to know the inner diameter of the shifter..

Thanks

Why not just pop yours off?

I expect a free shifter once you make something awesome, for my great insight.

When I get a free moment I'll head to my car and pop it off, but I'm pretty busy with finals and whatnot. Hopefully Thursday I can get the chance to do this, but I figured why not see if anyone knows before then

metal is hard. Finals suck so much right now.

Can I have one as well once you're done for helping out?

Wow dude! Clearly I was much more insightful. Stop trying to steal my thunder. I am clearly the first to get a free one for all my hard work.
