shut the car off, disconnect the battery and then reconnect after a minute to reset the computers.

Did you feel the transmission have a very hard "jerk" prior to this happening?
This has happened to my previous C240, and my current C55. The transmission went into "safety" or "limp" mode due to the speed sensor of the transmission malfunctioning. In this mode, the car stays in 2nd gear as a safety measure.
Sometimes restarting the car temporarily solves the problem, but if the speed sensor is truly malfunctioning, then you will go into this "safety" or "limp" mode again until the malfunctioning sensor is replaced.

...and is there any special reason for it to enter the "safety" mode? Strange is that when turning to D it acts like the car is on high rotation, and I can feel the car moving... I will try disconnecting the battery and see how it goes. Btw how much could cost the speed sensor?

Still in Lim Mode
Hi,
I´m still having problems with my car as the gearbox keeps locked in limp mode. As I live in Angola, and local dealer rarely has parts, I went to South Africa, and got the part for the car, unfortunately, it looks like I bought half of the part. Can you guys please have look and advise me if I realy need to buy the all figure?
thanks,
geraldo
