A few quick C55 questions
Hey everyone, I'm still new to the C55 (just bought it in November) and have a few questions that I need help with (tried to search a little bit):
1) How/where do you run the aux cable in the glovebox, so that you can access the ipod with the glovebox closed? (I searched and read that there is a piece that comes out under the glovebox, but can't find it for the life of me!)
2) What is the cheapest total price (parts and install) for getting the phone function in the car?
3) I'm possibly looking to upgrade the headlights (they look a little dull). What's the normal cost (parts and install)?
4) Anyone have an extra or unused "ashtray delete" part that they want to sell?

1. The cable in the glove box that allows access to the iPod with the glovebox closed is the iPod integration accessory kit. This is different than the AUX cable. B67824256 is the kit number at the time I did the install (could be superseded by now). ~$195. Requires install, including removing the head unit and passenger side footwell panels.
2. Good question. I was able to get 'sample' parts for free at the time and did the install myself. I believe the parts availability has become very hard to find - maybe $600 - $800? Install requires coding the MOST ring. You'll need the dealer or independent with MB diagnostics to activate.
3. Try cleaning the surface with readily available remedies.
4. It should be less than $40 at the dealer. Do it at the same time you install the iPod kit, you'll have that all apart anyway.

Thanks for the informative reply. As far as question #1, I understand that the ipod integration kit is different than the aux input. I am just looking for a way to run the wire through the bottom of the glovebox with it closed. This way I can just sit the ipod and wire in the center console.

I had a MObridge Bluetooth kit (M1000-M-BT-MBZ1) installed in my car for $750. It is fully integrated with the Command radio and works great. I use it all the time - money well spent. Cartronics makes the same device. Both devices can be installed by the owner, but after watching a pro install mine I'm glad I did not attempt on my own.
Headlights:
This is surprising - the headlights on my car are the best of any car I have ever owned/driven. Yours must be dirty. I would try one of the headlight restoration kits you can buy at your local auto parts store.

Just to clarify mgiannetto's post, we are the North American distributor for mObridge. We have both the mObridge and iTronic kits available.

I smoked the plastic shroud on the inside of the lights for a different look. Make sure you use high temp paint and let it dry otherwise it will bubble.

As far as the ashtray delete, have you tried just removing the ash tray itself? It does create some extra space there. As for the headlights, I have used the 3M kit with excellent results. I did use some extra 600, 1000, and 2000 grit sandpaper I already had. The 3" pad it comes with will also fit nicely on a 3" DA polisher (griot's garage). Between washes I'll use a homemade concoction of 1 part metal polish to 3 parts plastic polish in a little bottle, and it keeps the lenses clear. I also follow up with the 3M sealant, and over the last couple of years, it's held up well. The lights on the C55 are the best ones I've ever experienced on any car, far better than what is on the new C class cars today.

1) You can't easily, and there's no point to really. If you are running the aux connector, it's already in the passenger side right kick panel. Run it underneath the carpet, underneath the footwell and then hide it underneath the center console. Then bring it back up through the glove box and have it hiding there. It's how I ran mine.
2) It's not worth it, buy yourself a $15 bluetooth earbud, and you don't even have to worry about unpairing when you get out of the car and are talking.
3) Just use the 3M or Meguiar's polishing kit, unless you're looking to upgrade to projectors.
4) Buy one they're cheap
