little goodies from formymercedes
My lovely wife not only gave me a new toolbox for Christmas, but also door lock pins, surrounds and the Affalterbach shifter knob emblem for me too! :) The little bits and pieces only arrived the other day, but no worries. As per previous discussions, I also removed the double sided tape on the emblem. I then secured it with OE quality Victor Reinz silicone, as specified for valve covers and such. The door pin surrounds required a bit of 'persuasion' with a socket and hammer, with of course a piece of shop towel to cushion the blows.
I was actually going to buy a brand new shift knob, as the leather is starting to fade around mine. But the full leather knobs from formymercedes do not look OE, but rather have large stitching which I didn't like, so I left it. I also bought off eBay quite a while ago a set of Affalterbach centrecaps, so those may find their way onto the stock 18s for summer use - unless I get another set of wheels, we'll see. And then I finally found out that I could adjust the volume on my Dension Gateway 500/BTA500 Bluetooth combo. Before I could barely hear person I was talking to, and same from them. Doh. The paper manual included doesn't set out all these details, fail. But yet I still complain. I typically connect up my iPhone to the Dension's dock connector for music purposes. Sometimes it's good and plays right away, other times it defaults to the Bluetooth connection and playing music that way leaves a lot to be desired for sound quality (and keep in mind I'm not audiophile - there are noticeable hisses and clicks once in a while). I may just buy an iPod Nano or iPod Classic and leave it in the car for music purposes, so hopefully there shouldn't be that issue anymore. http://i788.photobucket.com/albums/y...G/534a05f3.jpg And from boring shift knob: http://i788.photobucket.com/albums/y...G/bfc4af67.jpg ...to Affalterbach'ing shift knob! http://i788.photobucket.com/albums/y...G/f588592c.jpg |
Looks awesome, need to do that to my shift knob too, door pins look great too.

I got the same shift knob emblem for this Xmas! Looks great I couldnt be happier, well maybe if the center black was darker, but still it looks great!

door pins don't just screw/unscrew on?
|
Door pins look great! Mark D. I believe they do just screw on.
|
The door pins screw in, it was the surrounds that needed the persuasion. :)
|
OK gotcha on the door pins. I was thinking about picking some up myself.
|
I have had the same door pins and surround for years. They look great and are really easy to install. To set the surrounds you need to tap them into the trim with a socket to achieve the proper indent.

Thanks for the pics, it looks nice. I am just ordered a shifter cap as well and some chrome polish. Hopefully it will clear up the oxidation on the exhaust tips. I am also interested in those mirros housings, but not sure if it would look too new for the chassis.

You can try #0000 steel wool for the exhaust tips also.

door pins and shift cap look sweet. jw on the center cap emblem, did you have to remove the stock aluminum cap or did you just epoxy it over ?
|
I did what others did, I removed the adhesive backing from the new emblem, and then I actuall used silicone sealant to glue it in place. I just used the sealant as it was what I had kicking around, and actually it has better temperature range than some types of epoxy. We can get quite cold temperatures here, plus pretty warm in the winters (total spread of maybe 60-70*C). I've had some epoxy bonds fail in very cold temperatures. The sealant I used was actually initially purchased for work on my C43's EGR covers (on the valve covers). Probably a it overkill but why not.

I like the oem door pins mainly because they have been using the same door pins for decades !! I think i just find it humorous.. they do look great though..!

And might I add, it does it easily without a lot of hard rough scrubbing. http://www.borla.com/products/polish.aspx |
Where did you get that 5.5 badge? I have a 2006 c55 and I think it looks great. Also how much was it? And did you get two?
