Buying a C55 "Lemon"?

Hello to all of you C55'ers!

I am in the W203 family as well but with an 05 C230K. I spotted an 05 C55 AMG for sale with 56k miles for under 20 g's. But the thing is it is considered a buy back lemon due to steering column issues.

Whats your take on this guys? 2 owner car, and the issue happened with the 1st owner I believe. Would it be a good idea to do the swap from my trouble free C230k?

The only common steering column issue I know with the C55 is the "dog bone link". If this was indeed the problem, and it tear apart repeatedly on this car for some reason making it a "lemon", I still wouldn't consider it a deal breaker IF the price is considerably low compared to similar C55s that have a clean history. If it breaks again, the worst that will happen is that you'll not be able to adjust the steering position.

But in this case, a C55 with 56K miles for 20k doesn't sound that good of a deal to me. You can easily get something with lower miles and clean history for around 17-18K. I got mine 9 months ago for 15K with 60k miles, clean history. But this was a private party deal and I really did some good haggling I would say. Problem free car so far.

After reading the Carfax again, the steering column was repaired 4 times and replaced twice. Hopefully that is what the issue was! I did read about that.

15k with 60k miles!! Wow what a steal, did you find it here on the forums or on Cars/autotrader? The one I am looking at is listed at 17,900 with 56k miles. It seems as though better deals are out there though...
