I knew something was wrong!! On the other hand, I would encourage you to do this mod also! this is a cheap, easy and fun way to increase hp. I kept promising dyno numbers, but it will happen sooner than later!

PARTS ARE ON THE WAY!!! I had the 55 splitter on my stock boxes with k&n's....I hope my **** dyno will notice a difference. BTW I may have some extra 90 degree pipes after the install so pm me if anyone is interested.

just got it all done today including custom aluminum brackets to keep the pipes from touching anything What a difference!!!

Pics would be great! I imagined nice aluminum brackets would hold it in place better, though I haven't had to adjust it since installation.

Any driving impression?

My butt dyno says 20+ rwhp ..... but throttle respone is better and you can feel it pulling more on top end....in mexico roads (there's a stretch of road about a mile and a half that is deserted that i go to test.) otherwise i have no data to back up the gains except probably better mpgs. I'll check after a few fill ups

here are some pics.......i am fabricating better mounts that will attatch on the protruding bolt of the filter clamp but am open to suggestions. tubes were sprayed with Dupont teflon as well. I kinda like my "honda parts" =)

you will gain a little with your intake using the 55 Y and the ripple hoses that come form the y pipe, but some flow test were made on a few intakes here is what we found. I am going by memory so the figures are exact.
first i built a duel like what needswings has using the Y pipe and the 55 hoses to the alumum piping.here are some pic of some of the intakes i built and my end result was to buy the needs wings because the workmanship, quality and the flow numbers. JIM

stock C32 and srt6 flow less than 400 cfm
stock e55 and sl55 flow was 515 cfm
home made using 55 y pipe flows 580 cfm. ( that i built in 2008)
Needswings c32 flows 659 cfm
Needswings mercedes E55 flow 684 cfm
my Needswings srt6/with e55 v8 698 cfm

so now which would you really want?

So these home made intakes are great then. They flow more than the 55 intake setup and are roughly the same price.

I would expect the needswings intake to flow much more because it is double the price.

if you use the ripple hose anywhere you lose flow, even the 55 y pipe cuts back flow over the Y fitting that Needswings sells in the c32 if you want 15 to 20 hp make your own, if you want 20 to 40 hp then you need the Needswings one,

I also tested them on the drag strip, the best i got with my srt6 (when it was a 6) was 12.7,,,on the strip the E55 stock on my SRT6 performed the best,, the next week i had a Needswings duel and 12.4 then a tune for the intake mod, fan.10% and clicked off 12.2 every week until i installed my V8
that is 1/2 second for 800 bucks the way it goes in drag racing is, 100lbs or $200. for each tenth of a second. and some times you get nothing or you loose a tenth. jim

Thanks for the numbers. So 55 y-pipe, aluminum piping with no ducting is the best value for money then. We would all like to support needswings, it is an excellent product but it would cost me about NZ$1400 by the time I got it here with freight, customs and exchange rate. I can do it for NZ$6-700 picking the pieces up separately and that extra 5-10hp is not worth $700. The home made intake for the win.

assuming the filters are quality pieces these setups should flow similarly to the NW intake. the main difference is the teflon coated intake piping with the NW kit which Rob says is good for a noticeable increase in CFM #'s

Just make sure it doesn't end up inside your TB. If you are new to teflon coating, maybe leave it alone.

My only question that has never been answered is still "how much cfm does the TB draw on full throttle?"

If the full throttle cfm is lower than what 55box provides, then going with higher cfm intake does absolutely nothing.

I'd shoot Rob @ Needswings an e-mail with that question. He'd be able to give you the best answer. If there were no gains to be had with increasing #'s on the flowbench I don't see why he would go through the trouble

funny you said that, I was just debating when I would do it. I have the spray can in the garage but decided to test it out first on the pipes left over to see if there is any type of residue left over. if there is, I guess I'll just polish the hell out of it!!!

Just received my Y pipe in the mail! Ordered 2x spectre 9833 inline filters and housings... now to wait for those.

An intake flows what it does at a certain vacuum, I would assume an intake that can flow more than the engine needs will still provide additional advantages by reducing the vacuum required. Of course you will get to diminishing returns fairly quickly and your $ to hp ratio goes up considerably.

The Y pipe used in the NW dual CAI for the C32 is exactly the same as the sl 55 y pipe. Reason being is that the SRT-6 has more room to fit the Y pipe you have on your car. http://needswings.com/NeedsWings-C32...t-c32dcai.aspx

I have an SL55 Y pipe I got as an extra during my custom intake build. It fits my C32 very snugly but leaves plenty of room for pipe clamps and tubing. The dual intakes are 3" ID exactly.

"Maybe" for your SRT...for our C32, these DIY intakes will do just as well. Guys hear me out on this...Rob makes a good product, but you don't need to spend that much. All respect AMX, but it almost seems you have skin in this (I'm guessing you've gotten to know and respect rob over the years so feel you need to speak up on his product...I get it...but your claims are over stated for our application).
