We would have never guessed that is was so quick. Usually it takes a lot longer. When we pulled out our C32 shocks for the coils- they were toast - in 10 months! Sucks!

Thanks

H&R does not release spring rates.

Thanks

I just picked up this old thread instead of making a new one (see Simon Lam..I learned something ).

Do Brabus springs also make the AMG shocks wear out quickly? Or is it just a problem with cars having a massive drop?

Also, can you recommend buying the Brabus suspension package with shocks and springs or would you rather go with some coilovers?

I like having the handling abilities improved w/o slamming the car.. A little drop is nice though

RENNtech Spring/OEM Shocks Update

I noticed how old this thread was and my contributions earlier on and wanted to give an update:

My OEM shocks are still fine after living 20 months with RENNtech springs. This includes about six days at the track and a handful of autocross events.

That said it looks like there are some nice coilover options (Carlsson, Bilstein, etc.) for the C32 now. It's a big difference in price over a lowering spring option but I imagine the performance is reflective of the investment. If you just want the lowered look just go for the RENNtech springs and be done with it. The C32, in my opinion, looks much better with a little drop.

My C32 will remain as is in terms of modifications. I have decided it would be kind of foolish to turn the C32 into a track car when I have a highly modified WRX that loves the track and a Lotus Elise arriving around the end of the year.

I think the shocks going out way faster is just a myth..it will go out faster but not any faster that it's noticeable when combined with stock springs.

I agree and that was my point many moons ago. However, I'm not sure everyone agrees with us. The proof is in the pudding as they say so I thought I'd pass along my experience (at least with spring rates similar to the RENNtechs).

I forgot how intertaining this thread was...

So who has the H&R coilovers on their car? Vader has Intrax spring and stock shocks?

Brabus makes the Eibach springs? That is the funniest thing I have heard. All Eibach's? A particular model fitment? This should be good...

so what's the price difference between the Eibach and Brabus lowering springs?

just reading the previous couple pages, I think I would have to agree with Harris, Carl, and AMG BRED the most. The lowering springs will shorten the life of the shock, but not to the extend of only lasting 5-10k miles after the swap. My friend has a 99 328i sport w/ H&R springs. He has probably 70k miles by now and the shocks has been fine so far.

Brabus does privite label for Eibach for W203.
Brabus also does the new E lowering component for Eibach, peel the sticker off the unit, It has a Brabus label right under the Eibach sticker.
I found this out during the Intrax R&D
Intrax makes springs for a few companies as well.
The Intrax drop is around 1.5 front and 1.3 rear.
My kit might be a little different on a regular W203
Eibach is 1.2 all around.
Here is my drop, no rubbing except when the Doc is in the back.
edit, Frank DROP THAT CAR

Are you sure that Brabus makes springs for Eibach? I am just confused as to why a leading spring manufacturer with all the necessary equipment in house would purchase springs from someone else.

Yes, I am using Intrax and stock AMG shocks.
The ride is great, we have a shipment on the way from Holland soon for the W203 kits.

Brabus drop will not be as agressive as the Intrax drop for the C32, but should look fine.

Eibach and Brabus are both in Germany, sometimes it's easier to privite label parts from others.

It happens more than you think, and not with just springs..

Could it be Eibach's makes springs for Brabus but maybe Eibach ran out of the ones labled "Eibach" so they took some of the ones intended for Brabus and put a Eibach sticker over them.

I think my Carlsson springs are made by Eibach as well.

eibach..

who here has the eibachs (which part # please), and how do they relate to renntech's (if +/- Firmer) as well as the H&Rs.

I had eibachs on previous cars before with IMHO very good (stiff/firm) results, especially when complemented with bilstein or koni sports.

How do the Intrax compare in firmness with the aforementioned as well??

TIA.

To the best of my knowledge, Brabus, as a tuner, not manufacturer, does not have the tooling and equipment to make springs. In the quantities they produce, it would not be cost effective for them to do so, especially for a limited and insignificant amount of springs supplied for the C32 in this example. Could you confirm who you spoke with at Brabus or Intrax that gave you this most certainly misleading information?

What is in the Brabus W203 kits besides springs?

Frank, you indicate that aftermarket springs will decrease the life of a stock shock, which is not what your references have said, but then state that your friend has a five year old 328 with over 70k miles with aftermarket springs and his stock BMW shocks are fine. Why do you think stock shocks will fail prematurely with the proper matched aftermarket spring? And how do you explain your friends success?

I think you got confused with what I was saying. The aftermarket springs will shorten the life of the shock, but not too the extend as Brad said 5-10k miles. READ it again.
