What did you get after you sold your C55?

More of an open/fun thread, just curious to see what former C55 owners have moved on to....

BiturboSF 09-14-2012 10:54 PM

Am curious as well. I'm going to assume for folks that wanna stay in the MB brand, E55 or C63 or any other higher model AMG's

An 09 fully loaded P30 C63 :zoom::naughty:

But I miss my baby (C55). Man I miss her

Interesting question, I know Kuzni went to an w211 e63.

Might pay to post this question on every single car forum except the c55 one, j/k.

I went E55
beware of the dreaded gas tank leak that plagues all V8 E Classes that MBUSA refuses to fix under recall.
I miss my C32 but i know its in good hands.....sort of.

Sorry to go off topic but can I ask, how did you like the upgrade? I know it is faster and has more power, how did you find the handling?

EVOII_Racer 09-16-2012 10:04 AM

i will always keep my modified c55. However i will purchase a clk63 black. I thought about the c63 black and the new cls63 but i like the c55 clk front too much!

Quicktwinturbo 09-16-2012 11:05 AM

cls63

I plan on keeping my car for a long time since I now have so much invested in it. Not really sure there's anything else I can do to it after the Kleemann headers, so hopefully it'll be enough power. However, I do plan on getting getting a 10 or 11 Grand Sport convertible in Jetstream Blue in the future.

Saaboteur 09-16-2012 06:57 PM

I haven't 'moved on' just yet. When I do, it will be to a C63, must have the performance pack with SLS internals and LSD though. Not that I would make a lot of use with the SLS internals, but the fact that it's available means I'd want it. ;)

That said, a CLS55 or E55 is tempting too, because they are getting quite affordable now. But I still can't stand how one of the dials on the instrument cluster is a clock. That annoys me to no end, and is almost a deal breaker for me.

What about the C55 do you miss? The C63 is a nice car.. had the pleasure of pushing it around one of those AMG experience things. But not enough time to say which is "better" if you know what I mean.

hahaha.. whats funny is I expected more answers like this.

When I ‘tired’ of the C55 I bought a BMW M Coupe, fortunately I was in the position financially to keep both and it was a great decision. The two are different animals, one rides on rails while the other is just go fast straight. Both can and are driven almost daily and don’t think I could get rid of either unless my children were starving.

paqueras 09-17-2012 04:22 PM

I will never gonna sell my C32 AMG SC because im going to keep it as a collectible.
I believe that in the future this rare baby will increase her value. (35.000 original Kilometers)
Right now my daily driver its a Mitsubishi L200 Triton truck (google it) and im planning to get a white C63 AMG in the next 2 years.

I love my C55 and most likely wont sell it or trade her in and keep it to continue being my DD however i am looking at 06-08 quattroporte's

NCE500 09-17-2012 08:31 PM

C55

+1 I love my little C55, not at all interested in selling. It is very dependable, in absolutely perfect condition, and makes for a most entertaining DD in every way. I'll just retire it and keep it around as one of my toys when miles get a little higher and I move onto something else for DD purposes.

I got out of my C55 in 2006, on to a CLK63. I wanted the convertible plus the hp jump was awesome.

I wonder why no one has ever swapped the CLK63 engine into the C55...now thatd be awesome.

Thats exactly what I was thinking of doing. What do you think of the transmission compared to the 5spd in the C55. When you put it in manual mode is it a bit more responsive?

tpick23 09-18-2012 02:57 PM

Definitely different feel due to the transmission.
The 5 speed would set you back in the seat and you could feel the shift points. The 7 speed while it had more hp and torque, you couldn't feel the gears shifting as much. Down shifting the 5 speed gave you obvious rpm changes. Dropping 2 gears maybe changes the rpm by a thousand. ie: interstate cruising at 75mph in 7, drop to 5 eh, drop to 4 and its on!! Pulls like a train..

I wouldn't exactly say more responsive. Manual will hold the gear you are in rather than shifting for you. The paddles may make the shift response a little faster but we are not talking a night and day difference. The coolest part of the 7 speed I liked is.... in manual mode using the left paddle to down shift while stomping the gas. Pull the paddle and hold it and it will drop to the lowest appropriate passing gear...instant grin... I found that you need to keep your finger close to the right paddle because the rpms are gonna jump fast and go to redline so you will need to shift up or you bounce off the limiter.

yup, i made the switch. i will not post the price i sold my c55 though for respect of the new owner that is also on here now (he needs to make more posts, get off the BMW forums! :rolf:) but yes i moved on to a 2007 E63 w/the P2 package. clean title with 50k miles black with the dark grey wood interior (no idea what it's called) that i really wanted. ended up picking it up for 35k from a reputable high end local dealer. i'm definitely satisfied. the car is very different from the W203. it doesn't feel bigger when you're just cruising at regular speeds, but once you start throwing it around, you'll notice the difference. there are 3 suspension settings on the car for cruise, sport 1, and sport 2. i noticed that when i put it in sport 1 it felt exactly like the C55 when i took corners (give you guys a general idea of how it handles) and in sport 2 it feels like it's on coil overs. just my opinion though. the 7 speed is sort of annoying because in the C55, if i wanted to do a little pull on the freeway without flooring it, i'd downshift twice into 3rd gear, compared to the E63 you have to downshift 4 times! it switches gears much more noticeably faster than my C55. in S mode when you hold down the left paddle, it'll automatically shift into the lowest gear availvable though (C55 does that too, but much slower) the car feels amazing on the freeways, you feel half the bumps you would on the C55 with stock suspension setup. freeway pulls in the E63 in S mode (never launched in hard off the line yet) are a comparable feeling to launching off the line in a C55. it kicks you so hard! i broke traction at 50mph on a cold day once. the E63 like i stated before is not my daily, i drive it maybe twice a week. i've already put smoked side markers on, replaced the front bumper (the one it came with had cracks and scratches underneath that cost to more to repair it than fix it) tinted the windows (same shade as C55) deleted the resonators, put LED license plate lights in, and monday i am getting a eurocharged ECU flash while on the dyno (look for my thread i'll make in the W211 area). front lip in the works too. next car i'm looking to get in a few years is a CLK63 black series. oh and i replaced the front and rear pads on my E63. the rumors are true, dealer charges $1,900, my indy charged me $600 :rolf: i recommend the car, it's wonderful to say the least on all aspects. just make sure you review the history thoroughly before purchase. i got lucky.
