A few days ago I bought a fob shell from the internet. Got it in the mail, no instructions. I found a video on Youtube -shell replacement destructive method- Probably the first video to choose from. After watching the guy in the video chew apart a bog with needle nose pliers I went at it myself. When I had removed enough plastic from the fob to pull out the board something caught on the inside and broke off one of the IR eyes, (there's two) ugghhhhh. Remote would still lock and unlock doors but absolutely did nothing when I inserted the key into the ignition. So after three attempts at soldering the IR piece back to the board, the parts are very tiny and I don't have many tiny tools and hands like a club, I was able to get the key to work again. That was a two hour job. In the meanwhile I was googling, and calling locksmiths, junkyards, insurance company etc and found out just how hard it is to replace one of these keys. So lesson learned: Don't take apart a perfectly working key half hazardly, and secondly I will stock up on an extra key soon. Hopefully before I need one again. Whew....
