Headrest motor repair DIY
Both my power headrests didn't work so I took it apart.
Remove seat back, 2 screws at the bottom then pull down carefully not to break top plastic clips. Remove headrest by pulling up and out of seat. Unplug and remove motor by popping it left off its mount. Disassemble motor by removing gear clip, cover, planetary gears and motor etc. Solder broken connection at motor circuit board. Reassemble in reverse order.
The first picture is from my seat heater repair, you DO NOT need to pull the whole seat cover off to get the motor out.

Nice! Now you should make it to where they dont go up and down whenever you move the seat...I did that a few months back and I'm sure it will preserve the longevity of their functioning. You can still move them up or down if you want but they dont move automatically.
Done via STAR. Great write up!

Many thanks for posting this. I couldn't figure out how to get the motor and housing down. The last thing I was thinking was to slide the whole assembly to the right (for the passenger seat).
Bad solder connection for me as well. It was either a cold solder joint or connector pins were not clean. Mine easily pulled OUT. Cleaned up the pins and applied solder by heating the pins/pad and touching the solder to the pins/pad, not the soldering iron.

My motor somehow came off the frame (probably when the dealer repaired my adaptive bolsters) - wasn't clear how the motor attached back on so wanted to leave this here. There are two slots that the motor slide onto. pull the headrest up and the motor goes into two slots in the seat frame and then push it to the left, then you can lower the headrest bars into position.
