That M113 Startup Whine
I have always wanted to know why all M113s, from my neighbors E430 to my C55, have that loud whine when you start them up. It lasts a few seconds then tones down, finally disappearing once the engine settles to the proper idle speed.
I did some casual searching, but wanted to know what the forum had to say.

Thanks guys, I had no idea what it was. The car would sound so much better on startup without it... is that ok to say?!?

I believe this is the part number for the ashtray delete:
203 680 52 50
My local Benz indy shop quoted me about C$107 for it, so I haven't ordered one. I just popped out the ashtray itself for extra space.

Sorry if im not mentioning the correct test guys..... but because I'm running catless I went to my shop (SpeeDriven) and they turned off the test that checks for Cat readiness.. Correct me if im wrong, but I think this is the same test you guys are talking about. It can be turned off! I dont have a CEL even though I have no cats at all.

I've discussed it with several MB and AMG techs - and it's only been explained as inherent to the engine. It's been discussed in other posts and anything from oil to power steering pumps have been mentioned. I believe someone took off the drive belt to rule out the pulley driven accessories and the sound is still there - so it must be internal. It's an awful sound.
I visited the AMG factory and was able to write down the list of EU options that could be had on the C55 (or W203) purchased in Germany. That happen to be one of them. You can also track all these mods using EPCnet and picking 203.076 rather than entering a VIN.

You can probably get better pricing from the US. We always seem to get shafted on parts prices, whether they are OE or aftermarket.
So I suggest checking locally and seeing what you can get it for. And if the price is decent, let me know and perhaps you can order one for me!!

I am taking the C55 to the dealer for the first time to get the SOS Teleaid shut down on 4/20 I will ask them about it then...I'll keep you in mind if they are reasonable
Until then, Ill just pull the ashtray
Haven't tried the online parts catalog mentioned above as I am at work and already buy too much crap from my office

There was a lifetime offer made from MB for the SOS teleaid service. I believe $299. Just an FYI If you were having it disconnected because of the ongoing charges that used to be the only offer.
