Rotella 15w-40

I've decided to try a new mechanic that a good buddy of mine recommended. He seems to be reputable and had a couple AMG's, a Maserati, and a 550 Maranello inside. I have always had the oil changed with Mobil 1 0w-40 or 5w-30 but he used Rotella 15w-40. I've read that the oil has more zinc in it to help preserve the longevity of the motor. Has anyone else ever had experiences with rotella? I'm willing to try it out but not sure if I should have him switch back to Mobil 1 next time around. The motor runs smooth and seems to be quieter but I'd rather use the oil that would protect the motor the most

+1. No way Rotella. Mercedes delivers the car with 0W-40, recommends 0W-40 in factory approved listings and yet someone pushes a non-approved product with talk of a zinc content. Amazing. Hopefully a factory fleece filter was used.

I'd drain it, refill it as spec'd with 229.51 factory fill 0W-40 and an OEM fleece filter. The oil put in your car is spec 228.3 and isn't even applicable to gasoline engines let alone AMG engines.

BMW
Using oil samples as a testing method. I firmly believe Rotella IS JUNK!!!! I will NOT use in my rig. I got 1,300000 using Mobil Delvac. Yes there is better, but Mobil is clearly a great oil.

Many MB guys I know use Rotella on their older gas V8s with good results ...but this oil it is really spec'd for diesel vehicles. As long as the oil is changed hot and often I can't imagine Rotella doing any damage, or being any better (or worse) than the correct weight/specs for the car.

I would use what MB put in the car from the factory and recommends...just to be safe.

Exactly...Rotella 15w-40 is what goes into my TDI.

I took it to the dealership yesterday and just had them do a service A. I've been having a string of bad luck lately with Indy shops so I think I'm just going to have to take to the dealership for now
