Talking OH SO CLOSE!! 13.001@107.9mph (stock)

only thing i had was nitto drags pulling 1.9 60ft's BUT i did that with my pilot sports also. anyhow on one run which i felt was my best run cause the car launched nice and hard for some reason the damn time didn't come out on the slip!!! i was so pissed and that was probably my 12.9

-i'll post my timeslip tomorrow and video whenever my buddy edits it.

Nice times! I went to the track for the first time 2 weeks ago and my best time was 13.46 with original stock tires.

-well with stock pilot sports i also had 1.9 60ft's but it's alot more consistent with the drags.

-thanks, next time ya go bring down your rear tire preassure so you can launch a bit harder. i have pulled 13.1-13.2 on stock tires, the cold weather helped plus elevation at Houston Raceway is one of the best in the nation.

I thought that I had read somewhere that the computer needs to be set to 93 octane in order to gain any performance benefit. (I think Jon Winter put 100 octane in his car and it ran funny for a bit). Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thx,
Tom

Hey Roozy, a big hello from chilly London town and congrats on a seriously fast time.

I am attaching a road-test print out from our Autocar magazine which gives an identical quarter-mile time and a 0-100mph in 10.8 seconds.

When I posted this is another thread, there was a lot of disbelief and even accusations that the car might have been a factory 'ringer'. But you put your finger on 2 things that might have been at the root of the fast time.

Here in Europe we have 98RON fuel available pretty well anywhere and most C32 owners use it. Secondly, you made your run when the temperature was 55 degrees.

Now that is seriously fine weather where I come from and I suspect that Autocat tests early morning when the air is both cold and dense. Fun

That is a great time and nice trap speed. Maybe once that sub 13 second run does occur you can also attain a trap speed of 108 or better. Has anybody ever trapped at higher mph than what you just did in a stock C32? I bet some ultralight forged 17's would make the difference to get you under the 13 mark and over the 108. I guess people would then say you weren't totally stock though.

What are your launching techniques? What proceedure do you follow?

psi in rears?
esp off?
ease into throttle?
full throttle from start?
speedshift? or Full auto?
brake torque? if so what rpm?

- Yes that would help but what we need is drag radials made in the 240! size like our stock tires because nitto drags are 245 which are taller tires.

-ESP off, tap the lever to 1st, AC off (but have it running on full blast heat with AC OFF to drop your temps right before the run), if you have drag radials then go in the water box do a quick 1 sec spin to get the tires wet. then drive up a little and do a good 6-7second burnout to get the tires hot and sticky. (oh yeah to keep the drags spinning for that long you have to keep pushing the lever back to first) then you want to brake torque as much as possible with drag radials to get the hardest launch off the line (after a few times of experimenting you'll have that down) OR if your on street tires you want to go around the water box and LOWER your PSI to low-mid 20's on the rears. the fastest way down that track is putting the car in 1st and letting the car shift itself at redline ..it's the most aggressive shifts

Thanks

so once your off the line are you full throttle? Do you brake torque as much as the car will allow?

So, once in 1st I can just proceed like its in drive and let it upshift itself eh? I haven't played with the transmission that much thinking that I'd have to do the shifting once I popped it down into 1st. I swore that it seemed to just bounce off the rev limiter without shifting the one time I had it in first and ran it up. That's what made me think I needed to upshift manually.

s4iscool - oh yes you want to get to full throttle as fast as possible but off the line ofcourse you want the most throttle without spin. yeh brake torque as much as you can without getting the tires to spin.

Accomplice8 - yeh the car will shift byitself

make sure you press the pedal ALL the way down - so you feel that button (kickdown) pressed.
