need brake advice
i brought in my car to the dealer for the 20,000 mile service B service. i get a call later on this afternoon saying that they recommend i change my brake pads and front rotors ($250 brake pads and $400 rotors) because they are "low". i don't drive the car hard at all and i don't notice any brake squeeling or brake fading or anything wrong at all with the brakes. are these people just trying to generate extra revenue? change brake pads - maybe. but the rotors? how do i know (what signs do i look for) if i really need new front brake rotors? how many miles have you guys driven before replacing pads/rotors? if the car needs it - thats fine but if i can get another 10,000 miles out of the rotors thats even better. i had a clk430 before my c32 and after 50,000 miles i never had a rotor issue so what's the deal with these c32 rotors? thanks in advance.

first ask for specs. ask how thick the rotors are new and at this point, these specs. are no secret, there are engraved in the outer diameter of the rotor, pads are somewhat the same, ask them what percentage of the friction material is left, as far as that goes, pay them a visit and have it shown to you, this will show your concern and also that you want to be involved and that you will not be a pushover for what is known as upselling of marginal needs

Plus their prices are too high. I think Evosport sells the Rotors,Pads, and Calipers for under 600 dollars for their C32 upgrade.

$595 for complete front set...
anyhow, yes, MB pads are soft and expire quickly... so 20,000 miles sounds about right... instead of changing the pads now, just wait for the brake light to come on...
as for rotors, Mb doesn't recomment shaving/turning the rotors as they feel it is unsafe... therefore, they just suggest you get new rotors... i think, they recommend changing to new rotors when it gets down to 8mm of thicknes... i think
