C32 transmission failure
Hi,
A couple of weeks ago I bought my first AMG, a C32 wagon from -02. It was amazing until the transmission broke down after 300 miles.
Luckily it was covered by the warranty from the dealer and they are now working on it.
Unfortunately my confidence for the dealer is not that good as they couldn't tell me the problem or what they did when rebuilding it over the phone. So I'd like to have your input of what could have happened and what to look for when picking it up.
It has 120.000 miles on the clock and the last service was done this summer a couple thousand miles ago.
It had some jerking tendencies when shifting from first to second, but that seems to be normal?
I was cruising at 60-70 mph and started slowing in when I heard some bangs from the transmission, not very loud but enough for me to stop and take a quick look. It behaved like it tried to downshift but it couldn't.
When pulling away it sounded like a broken gear up to 20-30 mph and then the sound disappeared. Now it was stuck in fifth gear, manual shifting was impossible.
I pulled over and restarted it, the "broken gear" noise was there at neutral and park, but it was louder in drive. Now it didn't move at all when trying to pull away.
I've seen similar stories when I searched Google, but none of them seems to have ended up like this.
