Ciao
The new model covered a distance of about 1,000 kilometres.
The Mercedes-Benz drivers in the 2004 DTM: Bernd Schneider (39) won his fourth DTM title in 2003, after 1995, 2000 und 2001. In his DTM career starting 1992 he achieved 37 victories, more than any other driver. Christijan Albers (24) changed from the Rosberg team to HWA in 2003. He won four races and kept the points battle open until the final race finishing runner-up in the championship behind Schneider. Jean Alesi (39) won twice in his second DTM season and ended up fifth overall. Gary Paffett (22), the 2002 German Formula 3 Champion, joined the Rosberg team from the third race. The rookie in a 2002 car scored four championship points. His best result was sixth place at Austria’s A1 ring.
Three youngsters enter the 2004 DTM with a 2003 AMG-Mercedes CLK: Rookie Markus Winkelhock (23) and Jarek Janis (20) as well as Stefan Mücke (22). Stefan will participate in his third DTM season. The driver of the fourth CLK-DTM will be decided within the next four weeks.
The AMG-Mercedes C-Class is equipped with the same engine as the CLK which has been used since 2000. The technicians headed by HWA’s technical director Gerhard Ungar have improved the driveability of the four-litre V8 engine. They also adjusted the chassis to the dimensions of the four-door car.

The team’s newcomer Paffett was the first at the wheel of the new car last Monday. “I’m really happy about my promotion to the HWA team, and I’m proud that they chose me to drive the new AMG-Mercedes C-Class for the roll-out,” Paffett said. “I was impressed from the first lap. The car has great potential.“
Jean Alesi: “Compared to the CLK, the C-Class is even easier to drive. It’s basic setup is very good and I feel really comfortable in this car.”
Bernd Schneider: “The 2004 DTM will be even harder than last year’s championship. First, I have tough opponents among the Mercedes-Benz drivers. Then Opel has hired several good drivers, and Audi participates now as a factory team.”
Christijan Albers: “Last year, I won four races, but I finished runner-up behind Bernd who had won only twice. This year, I hope to be more consistent and to score more often. That should increase my chance to win the title. “
Norbert Haug, Vice President Mercedes-Benz Motorsport: “With Bernd Schneider, Jean Alesi, Christijan Albers and Gary Paffett, our team is a good combination of experienced drivers and ambitious talents. The first three-day test of the new C-Class demonstrated that Gerhard Ungar and his team created a good basis for the new season. I expect the 2004 DTM to become the hardest fought ever.”
