05' C55 AMG air condition/heater question

Hello,

Looking at picking up a 05' C55 amg for a fun weekend car.

This will be my first Mercedes so don't know too much about them.

But on a test drive for one I was looking at, I decided to try out the AC/heater & defrost. But nothing came on...I tried a bunch of different settings and buttons but nothing. When I got back to the car lot & shut the car off and turned it back on then everything started working again, AC, Heater & defrost.

Seemed like while driving nothing wants to turn on?

Car is an 05 c55 110,00 miles, seems runs strong & not over heat or anything.

Any ideas? Am I missing a button or something lol.

Thanks for reading

The heated seats should function when you press the button for either side respectively. The defrost is suppose to work as normal as any other car. The air con settings are in that lower display. Just press the button that indicates it to be air con on and then lower the temp to the minimum and see from there. If it is operating as you say, something is faulty somewhere and not a fuse. Probably a loose connection. If I were you, find the car operating manual for the C55 on the net. Go through the uses and operation of the equipment and then go play around in them when buying one. Make sure you test that rear visor and the PDC if equipped as well as heated seats. Those tend to give faults. Make sure you listen out for any abnormal drive shaft noises from the propeller shaft as well as the transmission. Make sure you test the car in Manual, Comfort and Sports modes to observe the selecting and operation of the transmission.

Thanks for the reply, yea was a bit concerned, especially when I googled the symptoms and nothing came up.

Haven't checked manual mode yet but will next...everything else seems good.

Will check the heated seats & everything else you mentioned!!

& again in case someone else reads, just to make it clear & how the order of events when, started car, AC/heater works fine, I then shut car off. Restarted about 5 min later and started to drive, 5 mins into driving went to turn on AC/heater and nothing is blowing out of any vents during the whole drive (about 15mins total) get back to lot, turn off car...then immediately restart car & try ac/heater again while idling and AC/heater seems to be working fine blowing strong out of vents.

I highly doubt this but was anyone fiddling with that lowed display? It has a button to increase the intensity of the air being blown or speed of that fan whatever it is. If its on 1 bar display, you wont hear or fell much. But if you increase it, it sounds like a miniature airplane inside the car to me.
Don't forget to look under the front for all your covers and leaks as well as manoeuvre your head around the engine bay if you have to, to inspect for leaks at the steering pump reservoir and anywhere else. Rubbish dealer told me that they had done an engine clean and that oil that was visible was an over flow when someone poured some in during a service or some bull. Turns out my power steering pump has a leak that I am yet to diagnose from where. And a squealing air con or hissing one which I hope isn't much of a headache to repair and is just a hose as I no longer have the joys of an air con due to gas leak I suppose. Good luck finding a well maintained one.
If you do find one an are very keen on buying it, take it to a shop with a lift and inspect the under carriage and the flex disc on that prop shaft.
