Tips for replacing C55 drivers side rear spark plug?
Anybody have a tip on how to replace the C55 rear drivers-side spark plug, other than raising the engine? That's the one I have left, and no matter how I arrange a short 3/8 extension and two u-joints, I just can't get the socket in there...

Have you tried using maybe 3/8 inch drive tools? I think I have seen someone use a ratchet with a stubby extension on the socket to lie almost flat on the rocker cover in order to loosen it. You just need to crack it and give it a few turns then remove the ratchet and turn by hand the extension and socket tills its loose.
How'd you get the ignition cables off? Trusty spanner method or you have the actual tool for the job?

I use totally normal 1/2 sockets, no problemo at all.
First put on the sparkplug socket, then extension and finally ratchet.
Loosen it, take away ratchet, keep extension and socket, use fingers to screw it as long as you can.
take away extension, screw with fingers on the socket to get the rest done.
I use an extension that is about 2" long.
works just fine!

Thanks, gents!! All your tips are much appreciated. I had not considered laying across the top of the engine to get a better reach, and also placing the individual socket / extension / ratchet on and off separately.
Khan - I have the MB spark plug socket removal tool, and a 12mm open end wrench works nicely on the coil end of the wires.
Best regards
