C55 Mods So Far
I've had the ECU and TCU tuned by Eurocharged. Headers will be installed in a couple of weeks along with some custom exhaust work done in stages. We are going to remove the secondary cats and resonators, so basically straight pipes to the stock mufflers and see how that sounds and performs. Possibly make changes after that depending how I like the sound and bit of performance from it. I'm wanting to do a few cosmetic things like un black all the chrome, I just dont like the black out look. I'd like to get the grill with the big star on it also. Definitely in the next year I'm going to trash the Command system it drives me nuts that the Nav only works occasionally and the sound isn't the best for what the unit should be considering the fancy name.

I haven't gone the performance mod route and was thinking the distronic mod might be resurrected, along with the Quaife diff that I bought awhile back. What kind of HP / TQ gains do you estimate from your tunes?

I think their claims are fairly accurate by just the seat of the pants driving. I do know that my engine and transmission are operating more smoothly and efficiently. I can actually notice the TCU adjustments more in daily driving. The ECU changes are very noticeable in throttle response.

I've read that eliminating the primary cats will yield a greater increase in power over the secondary and resonator delete. I don't want to make the car "too loud" at cruising speeds. Would I better off keeping the secondaries and the resonator and just deleting the primary cats and see a greater increase in power than vice versa?

I still need to have the 02 sensor's hooked up to pass emissions, so instead of taking it out and putting in a hi flow cat I decided to just keep the primary. I may take it out and put a hi flow in but it would definitely need to be re tuned differently. I'm going to do it incrementally to get the sound and maybe power I want. If I like the sound initially I probably won't change it.

The shop where I'm taking it couldn't stop talking about these mufflers when I first asked them about exhaust work. Then I read a bunch on this board about them. When I took my car in Wednesday for us to button down what we were going to do they brought them up again. So what the heck, I'm going to find out what all the hype is. LOL
I will definitely get sound clips when I drop the car off and when I pick it up.

I'm planning on installing the Kleemann long tube exhaust headers that I bought in the spring time with K&N air filters and a Eurocharged tune to fit the modification. After it's installed I will post some pictures here for people who are interested getting this done. There is no emissions testing here where I live, so I'm not worried about failing the emissions test. These will eliminate the primary cats and should yield around +35hp and torque. There are only two concerns that I have about this modification which are:
Smell: I'm hoping that after removing the primary cats the secondary cats will do their job to prevent my car from smelling like the cars from the 80s without a catalytic converter. I hate sitting behind cars in traffic that smell gross because they have straight pipes. I will see after installation and might have to install high flow aftermarket catalytic converters if the exhaust smells bad.
Engine mounts: the long tube headers are weaker in strength than the original cast headers, so if your engine mounts are worn out, it may eventually crack the new header. Next time I'm going to my mechanic I will ask them to check the engine mounts and replace them if my engine moves a lot. I now have 100,000 miles on the car with the original engine mounts. Here are some pictures of the new headers, they look gorgeous compared to the stock unit:

I have been driving for many years with Kleemann headers with secondaries in place.
Never had a problem with smells.
Furthermore I´ve had very bad mounts for several years but never had any problems
with the headers. Now they´re all changed (2 fronts + 1 at the gearbox).
Get a tune to make the lambda-light go away!

If you are doing headers and downpipes and removing primary cats, id personally keep the secondary cats in place, especially if you fit c63 backboxes, they are louder than the stock c55 boxes it would be way too loud cruising.

Id also get some quality coilovers, its the best mod you can do IMO after driven 1 stock c55 and 1 with coilovers the difference is massive, lot better traction as well.

Ok, since this is my post and it got hijacked a bit I'll respond to this. I'm leaving the primary cats(I have to pass emissions) and removing the secondaries and resonator. Adding Short Tube Headers and C63 mufflers. I don't think the mufflers will be too loud keeping the primaries, but you never know.

No they shouldn't, you are correct, I read your early post and it said straight pipes to the rear mufflers, which would mean no cats. I personally wouldn't bother unless you are adding sports cats or deleting the primaries altogether.

Ha, I had to re read what I posted. LOL I did say "remove the secondary cats" I guess I inferred that I would leave the primaries. LOL Question, you wouldn't bother with what? Taking the secondaries and resonator out? Depending on how it sounds and what the tuner says about a reflash, I may or may not replace the primaries with Hi Flow Cats. The guys doing the work said it probably wouldn't make much difference once the secondaries and resonator were out. I'm actually more concerned over getting a more aggressive sound( rather than loud) than I am the performance gains. Which I'm guessing will be maybe 20hp.

I have kleeman long tubes +downpipe (remove primary) + secondary cat delete (x pipe) +stock mufflers..it sounded great but the smell was bad with windows down...I added high flow cats and smell is mostly gone and did not lose any performance that I noticed
