Finally purchased my first amg

I bought an 04 C32!

Sadly I have my farewell to my previous forum buddies over at swedespeed because I used to daily an s40. Huge step up in terms of performance and luxury.

the c32 is a bit up there on miles (140k) but man the power is there and it delivers and puts a smile on my face every damn time. I feel like the king of the road. Especially at stop lights when I see other cars lining up next to me. I've lurked this forum to pinpoint what I really wanted and sure enough my first instinct was right. The c32 was the best choice for me and dammit did I am so glad I got it.

Only one small issue. I get one code for cylinder 1 malfunction. It drives fine, idles fine, and there seems to be nothing wrong with it besides that. I already have new spark plugs, air filters, oil filters, fuel filters and will try to figure what's going on with that code and try to get it resolved soon.

Overall, it's in great condition. Awesome Premium sound with aux, nav (it's ok...), very clean interior, clean exterior with slightly noticeable scratches on the trunk. I need to fix the left side view mirror and need to fix some small damage on the lower right fog light area. Cosmetic things don't really bother me or affect the performance. Second hand amg no doubt but well worth it. I hope to keep it running smoothly till I have to part with it.

I hope to have you guys help me out and also stay part of the amg community.

Thanks A bunch. I was eager to get myself a c55 but the v8 wouldn't have gone well with my insurance premiums due to age.

The insurance would have gotten knocked out cold if you had a c55 with the 55K in it.

Congrats! These are great cars and with proper care last a long time.

Search for some of the pre-purchase items, and look for these issues on yours. The list can be long, so I won't repeat it. Most are maintenance items, but can get worse if not addressed quickly.

Your #1 cylinder issue could be a coil, wires, plugs, injectors...who knows. Give us the Pxxxx code number and it will help us give you places to look.

I agree. I already have the basic maintenance items being shipped to me. I should have all if not most by next monday. The check engine light is no longer on and when I plug in the obd there are no fault codes (I did not erase the codes). The only code that popped up was when I test drove it and plugged it in was P0301. Did some research on the spot and it didnt really concern me as I thought the same as what you suggested (spark plug, wire, coil, etc) so I let him know it could be serious could not be.

I have a great mechanic who changed my oil yesterday for 20 smackaroos and checked my transmission for free and said it was in great condition. He daily drives an ml55 and although he knows they arent the same, he wont charge me a lot because he's learning how to work on mine to help his credibility while using the forums and guides to perfect his work. He's been our family mechanic for years so I trust him. He did a full inspection for free because I let him test drive it and the engine was very clean besides some build up of dust and grease that just needed some detailing. Thanks for your input

The plugs/wires could be put in wrong. Have your mechanic check that out first. If not it's def gotta be a coil

That was my first issue but luckily my dad has known a good tire shop owner for 30 years. Can get some contipros or pirellis for about 300-360

Got it looked at, turned out to be nothing. The first cylinder had nothing wrong and all spark plugs check out. Mechanic said I should replace them in about 2 months or 3000 miles to be safe. I'll have him look at the coils as well to be safe. Thanks a bunch!

You might want to pick up a spare coil off ebay for ~$13. These are the same for a whole bunch of V6 & V8 MB engines, so any with the screw in the middle and 2 wires will work.

I bought a spare because one of my coils had a crack in it, but still worked fine. The cracked one is now sitting as a spare in case it is needed.

I go through so much rubber that I usually don't care what brand/tire it is. If it's got good enough tread to last me a week or 2. I'll take em! I have a hookup with a used tire shop. I get them at $10 each lol

tire shop hook ups are the best lol lucky you get to burn rubber so often, I occasionally step on it to get out of traffic hot spots. This thing was everything I imagined it would be!! Do you have the og wheels ?

Congrats you will love the C32. I've had mine 13 years now and still love driving it and wouldnt dare sell it despite recently picking up a 15 E63S.

I would get your Cyl 1 checked with a compression test just to be sure its not a more significant issue in the making... i say that because i had a stuck open injector in cyl 1 which caused a misfire code for 2-3 months and even the dealer said dont worry about it. car was still driveable and power was about 95% of what it typically was but i always knew something was wrong and kept clearing the misfire code with a ODB2 tool that I have.

long story short, it ended being a i had a stuck open degraded fuel injector in cyl 1 that flooeded the cylinder and caused a hydro lock situation which then slightly bent the rod. i should have replaced my fuel injectors at 100k miles but not knowing they could degrade i never considered doing that.

i opted to not rebuild the engine/replace the rod and just do an engine swap which should be done sometime this month... lesson learned, at 100k miles you best check everything and dont ignore replacing your FUEL INJECTORS if you're getting a misfire warning!!
