C32 AMG Manual/Automatic ??
Hey-
Sorry I could not find an answer to this on the forum ... We currently own a 2000 S500 but want to get a C32 AMG ... Does the car come in manual transmission? Also is the Navigation system DVD Based in the C32 AMG yet or is it the same setup as the 2000 S500. Thank you.

all amg cars are automatics, and the comand system is cd based same as all c class cars.
only the new e has a dvd based system (i think)

Rumours telling that there will be a DVD-based COMAND for the -03 W203. Don't know the truth-value in this rumour, but since a DVD-based COMAND is optional in the new E-class, it would make sense to also offer it in the Cs

most nav systems in 03 will be DVD based
This CD thing is so silly now that we have the technology for the DVD based systems. MB is a bit slow in transition but I think all their cars will have this in 03. As for manual tranny, forget it for AMG as mentioned above. They make high performance cars that are as simple for the operator as possible and the funtionality is designed to make it comfy for the occupants.

not to sound negative, or like a fanboy for MB, but the CD based comand works ok. yea it kinda sucks you need to have a bunch of cds for the country, but how often do you need to change the CD??? its not like you change regions every other day
main purpose of comand, get me somewhere, and not get me lost. It does that pretty well.
Now if the DVD comand, PLAYED DVDs, which i dont think it does, thats another story!

dvd based navi isn't just so you can have many regions on one dvd. also live feedback. like in my rx300. tells me exactly what road i am on and what direction and the name and a map...its a lot better.

MB CD navigation can do that if they would just program it to. It shows me what street, etc I am on when im in Show Location mode... They need to have this information during guidance as well. I don't know why they don't program the software to do it... MB has said before that in Germany the names of streets were not too important to show up on the map. Well this is the USA... It's important to us. Sometimes they (MB) take a while to figure this out.
Any anyrate, I'm sure the new DVD Nav will be great.

yeah ... don't get me wrong i love the S500 and wouldn't trade it at all ... just sometimes every driver has a few wishes .. you know kinda like if they would build the car my way. but after seriously thinking...i might just settle with the c32 amg fully loaded instead of waiting for 2003 c32 amg with dvd naxi (still not sure if it is set in stone to happen or not) ... over a fully loaded M3 ... thanks for all your help and info you provided.

Has it been confirmed that Nav's will be DVD in '03?
I highly doubt they would ship to the U.S. ready to play DVD's since that would violate numerous laws. Mabye it will be like the DVD system on a Volvo where it will play but once you exceed 3 mph it is automatically shut off.
I will talk to my dealer and see if they can add to anything about this.
